I've been using LS for a couple years now, but I'm having trouble now getting networking to work. (I just recently got a switch) It works fine in Explorer (so it's not a *network* problem per se), but in LS whenever some app tries to access the network, it hangs. I've got an ME box, 256 RAM, and I've had this happen on two different builds of LS. (about a year apart) I'm sure I'm missing something basic, but I don't know what it is.

everyone knows how I hate repeating myself...but here I go again. LS does not alter Windows other than changing the "Look & Feel" of the desktop interface. It will not change your Network Setup...It will not change your Run box...

Regardless, I can browse the network *fine* under Explorer, but LS crashes if I try under it. So there is something in Litestep that I don't have configured correctly.

It wouldn't happen to be one of those M$ "switches" would it? I friend of mine got one of those...you need software on the client and windows XP just to set it up. Wouldn't suprize me if it had a "search and destroy superior shell" feature.

Nope, it's a Linksys switch. I got my roommate's computer on the network today. He's running Litestep too and same problem - click on "Network Neighborhood" and it crashes. Most annoying. (although interestingly, we can work around it by accessing the network some OTHER way, like using the tree view in Windows Explorer)

could be that NetHood is dependent on Exploder

Could be, but XP doesn't have this problem, at least not on mine. ME does some odd stuff with networking and should be avoided if possible, even 98SE is better.

Do you know you can get to specific computers by typing \\computername in the Address bar? Like if your computer was named Jay you'd type \\Jay
Hope that helps...
