I am very new to litestep and have beeing reading http://brembs.net/litestep/win2k.html in order to install it on Windows XP however when I boot up I get the error message "Unable to find the file litestep\step.rc\." and after looking around online my understanding is that this file is the main configuration file for litestep. Can I just use the file outlined here in notepad (http://wiki.litestep.com/Step.rc) as my step.rc or is that far too basic? As for the location of the file, does it matter where it is in the litestep\ directory or does it specfically have to be litestep\step.rc\.?

Thanks

Sounds like you're trying to run a build update. Install Litestep using Omar's installer, then update it with the final build (stop Litestep, extract build over the installation, restart Litestep).
