I'm wondering how to get started in creating a module for LS that goes out and checks gmail accounts. Much like the gmail extension in Firefox.

I haven't written any code in years - so where would be the best place to start? What language to use? .... all that good stuff.

I'm pretty sure google already made an app for that.

They made a module that you can plug into LS? Do you know where it is or how to get it?
