Ok, so I'm playing with different themes, trying to find one that suits my style... I finally figure out that all the ones with the looks that I want are missing one vital feature... multiple desktops.
Since I started dual-booting ubuntu, I've grown accustomed to the spinning cube available via compiz-fusion. Not only am I missing the cube, but in the "pretty" themes I've come across so far, there's no virtual desktops... sigh...
The themes I have found with virtual desktops were typically flawed in some major (to me) way, or just didn't have the "oooh" factor (you know, that sound your friends make when you show them the latest tweak on your demo box).
(Don't get me wrong, I haven't explored even a third of the themes available, and I'm a total litestep noob so I haven't even looked into enabling the functionality on my own.)
But wait! I found Shock 4Way 3D - It gives you the spinny cube! Ok, so it's missing some features, like redefining how many desktops you can have, and I don't read Korean (it's not fully translated, it seems)... but it does give 4 desktops, on an OpenGL cube interface. Setup was a snap, too, it didn't even require a reboot.
Setting litestep as "public" (play with the options) will make sure your taskbar and right-click menus travel to the other desktops with you, and I haven't been this happy since I got WoW running under wine on ubuntu.
Good luck in your customization endeavors, and feel free to pass on any of your favorite customization tips ;)
