What's wrong with the docs tab? Thread last updated on 2008-03-31 22:57:33

Bouncing around on this site some more, I decided, for some strange reason, to check out the documentation ;)

I got a message indicating it was non-functional. What needs done to resolve this issue?

A PHP programmer needs to come along with time and energy to dedicate to this community.

IMHO, the docs tab should be removed in the mean time.

I wouldn't remove it. I would simply change the link to point at wiki.

Unfortunately the way the site was designed originally we can't just remove the tab. And in order to point it to a list of resources I need a php programmer. However, the docs tab is scheduled to go away as soon as I find a programmer to be replaced by something else.

You're kidding, right?

I mean, you're not really going to remove something you just said you absolutely need, are you?

The number of tabs is required because of the site design, not specifically the word "Docs".

For a good 3 years now I have been without a programmer. There are tons of features we want to add to the site, and a working docs section would be in that list, however; nobody can help us get there. So once again, get off your fuckin' high horse and help out or get the hell out of dodge.

emphasis added.

and, out of curiosity, why has it been 3 years since you could find a php programmer? in 3 years, someone could have learned php...

There is a difference between want and absolutely need. Stop being a jackass.

We have had 4 people say "Yea, I will help out." They have been given a task to complete and none of them have returned with it. When I wrote the docs I taught myself PHP in a month. However, I don't have the time now to do the work nor the current knowledge of PHP. Know any PHP programmers that can help us? tux was originally a Linux fanboy...and he helped us out for a long time.

When I wrote the docs...

So there are existing docs? That would make inserting them even easier, I would think... Now all we need, unless I am mistaken, is to figure out how to merge them with the site, no?

The docs are like 3 or 4 years old now. 75% of the docs don't apply anymore. The core of LS changed since they were written. Since there really isn't much left to the core it really doesn't need docs. However they are working on a new site litestep.info to include a wiki and tutorials.

cool, i'll check it out. thanks for the .info ;)

hmm.. looks like it's a parking lot, at the moment. maybe we should check around the other LS sites, see if we can gather up all the docs and put them there? someone has evidently gone to the trouble of registering it, might as well put it to good use :)

Give them time.

So much for helping the community, eh?

"It was Everybody's task.
Everybody figured Somebody would do it.
Somebody never got around to it.
Nobody did it."

Guess I'll stop trying to get any balls rolling, and play this inning out on my own. It's ok, don't jump up. No one expects anyone to actually do anything, so your sacred honor is intact.

So once again, get off your fuckin' high horse and help out or get the hell out of dodge.

Guess I'll saddle up my horse and move to another community, where community stuff gets done by the community.

Oh, and by the way? Dodge is capitalized, it's the name of a city.

You want to help, contact one of them, I am sure they will take the help. You just can't expect things done instantly.

I never said I expected instant results... and I wasn't aware there was already a thread on this topic.

Whoops, my bad.

I dont think litestep.info is going to have a wiki and/or docs in it, but merely links to the allready existing content available (eg; wiki.litestep.com and all the rest of them)

Read that forum for details: http://freeyourdesktop.scriptorium.se/viewtopic.php?id=68

http://lsdocs.shellfront.org/litestep.php

or make it auto-rederect
