Proprietary button incompatibility. Thread last updated on 2007-01-21 23:25:49

I don't even know where to start with this one. I got a new HP notebook (Pavilion dv9000) with WinXP media center, so it has nice little soft buttons for video playback and mute/volume control. These all work fine except the mute and volume slider don't work in Windows when I have Litestep as the shell. They will work when on the Media Center software when it's open, even running Litestep, but not for Windows volume. That only works in Explorer.

I might suspect Litestep of disabling some process they need if they didn't work in certain software. When playing videos in WMP the playback buttons work (start, stop), but not the volume. Strange.

If anyone has a clue what to try, I know it's a pretty specific issue, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks for reading!

Something loaded must have been using Explorer to get the keys as they were pressed. The only way I know to mess with this is to get Anykey (for the scankey app inside), use scankey to get the keycode, and use that keycode in a hotkey in litestep, using lsslider or umslider to get bangs for adjusting volume.

Yes, that's a lot of work for two keys, if you're not used to this sort of thing.

I felt it was too much work for the luxury so I kind of gave up. Let me know if you find anything out, or if you need any help along the way!
