I've noticed that I cannot get my amp controls to work on any theme... is this because I have to have a non free winamp media player? Can I set things up to control my default media player?

I'm using windowsXP and have Media Player 11.

You can make MediaPlayer work...there is a thread in the Code section on it. Most of us do use Winamp or FooBar or aomething else as WMP is too big and bloated for us.

Well I'm no windows fanboy so I've decided to start using winamp, I like it so far, my only concern was the cookie that came with it but I understand what it was for and got rid of it... : )
