Sorry if this has been posted before, search is broken.

Anyways, simply put like the thread title says, can you use LS with Windows Vista when it comes out?

When it comes out? Who knows... it's not out.

Right now? No, it's not fully compatible.

My computer won't be compatible with Windows Vista, so it won't be an issue for me for quite some time.

I've tried Vista a few times, including the most recent release, and it's disappointing, imo. It seems to mostly tie together stuff - that we can already do - in to one package. It doesn't scream "this is a new OS," to me.

I tried one of the betas and, well, I'm not going to have anything to do with Vista again. It's just a more bloated and more annoying version of WinXP. Besides, I like being able to run programs and games on my computer. Why should I let the OS hog all available resources?

if you switch off the new glass window decorations its not eating much ressources anymore .. i had pretty much the same fps in wow at least^^
Anyways, i don't believe there will be litestep support ...

yeah...but we all heard that when 2000 came around and then again for XP.

so, Vista is that bad huh? I'm just interested in DirectX10 and the future of games to be honest. But I've been using LS for years now and it would just feel weird if I didn't have it (:

so hopefully devilboi predicts good things

tbh, i quite like the vista window system. so whats stopping support for vista?

Posted by member 51749 on 2006-11-19 17:44:06 link

as an update, ive gotten litestep working on vista by running it in win2k compatibility mode. for some reason xp mode doesnt exactly work, but 2k mode does. some modules are iffy still (lsslider for one, something to do with vistas new sound system), so proceed with caution. but it looks good.

Could you make a step by step of what you did? I'm not sure how to replace it with explorer.exe, is it simply enough to run the setshell.exe and then put litestep.exe in compatibility mode?

Or should I just wait for a new version?

i should mention it doesnt start as a shell, you have to run it manually , which is a pain in the arse. ive searched and searched, but cant find the registry key which invokes the shell.

I have litestep running well in Vista and it starts up when it is supposed to. However, I found an issue with shutting down through the step, which makes it stop responding. I guess vista doesn't allow other applications to shut down.

IS there a LiteStep out there today that is compatible with Windows Vista Home Premium? I can't find a litestep that works with vista...=[

I think if you crab the latest cvs and compile it that some of the bugs were worked out.
