Posted by member 212670 on 2006-09-20 13:44:03 link

What theme?

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-20 16:02:21 link

It's probably trying to define the same hotkey twice, or something like that. Without more info we can't help you.

Posted by member 344719 on 2006-09-20 16:39:55 link

no there all dif hotkeys, its every theme i try to install... thats whats so weird.... i can't understand.... boreas what other info woouold u like and i will post it as soon as i can get hold of it

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-20 16:46:22 link

What are all of the theme names and where did you get the copy of the theme?

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-20 21:36:05 link

Click on the error dialog box that comes up, then hit CTRL+A and CTRL+C. That ought to let you paste the exact text of the error message here. Then provide the theme name(s) and where they came from, like DeViLbOi said.

Posted by member 344719 on 2006-09-21 07:08:07 link

just one error or all of em?

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-21 10:10:31 link

Well - are they all different, or all the same? If they're all different, a few examples would do the trick. You have to remember we can't see your screen. ;)

Ok, those look like the default "Explorer emulation" hotkeys that come defined with the installer. Do any of those hotkeys actually work, i.e., if you hit win R or win Pause does it do anything? Do you run any other software that may be registering hotkeys and preventing the jkey module from assigning them properly?

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-21 12:37:25 link

Are you running LiteStep on top of Explorer? Do you have 2 instances of LiteStep running? How did you install these themes?

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-21 12:41:33 link

Ya know, this is a case where using XP's 'remote desktop' might actually be useful. Of course, I'd *never* trust my PC to anyone who hung out in *these* forums. =P

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-21 14:56:20 link

tru...tru...Would be really nice if you could see what process owned the hotkeys when they error'd out. JUGG!!!!

Posted by member 212670 on 2006-09-21 15:23:38 link

Brian... can I 'remote desktop' in to your computer? I'll put 'protection' on my mouse, I swear.

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-21 15:27:59 link

Gaah! I feel dirty just reading that post.

yeah running it on top of explorer and i'm using the litestep installer program that is located in the directories utility directory. any other software nope.... its pretty much a fresh install +a coupld of backing up programs i use

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-21 16:32:43 link

Ahhh, well, I've never tried to run LS on top of explorer, but I imagine that if you try to emulate explorer hotkeys with LS - hotkeys that have *already* been registered by explorer - then you'll have a problem. If you must run LS on top of explorer, then you'll want to comment out those "emulation hotkey" definitions in your hotkey.rc file.

Why are you trying to run both shells simultaneously though?

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-22 00:25:29 link

yup...Boreas is right on that one. If you run over the top you can't use those Hotkeys nor can you use the desktop nor the popup. Your taskbar will also be screwed up and you will have no Systray. I think that about covers it.

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-22 00:54:47 link

If you must run LS over explorer (school or work PC restrictions) then you need to make some changes to your setup. There used to be a tutorial about this (shell-shocked.org?), but I can't seem to find it anymore. Anybody know where it is, or have a copy stashed somewhere that we could post?

Posted by member 248213 on 2006-09-22 01:30:54 link

dang, all the content at shell-shocked disappeared... some good history in there :/

I remember that article btw. And DeV I am sure you can have a popup running under explorer... cant remember how though...

Posted by member 212670 on 2006-09-22 01:45:42 link

I imagine it would need to be opened by a hotkey?

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-22 02:07:23 link

hotkey or label...might work...

Posted by member 344719 on 2006-09-22 03:21:19 link

well i'm not intentionally trying to run it over explorer shellits just not letting me do it any other way.... with the built in litestep skin it reboots the machine to add the effects but for some reason when i use the installer to install the ones i want it just does it over top of explorer... gives me no options to reboot just this message to start with;

---------------------------
Warning
---------------------------
You are currently running another shell, while Litestep b24 allows you
to run under Explorer, we don't advise it for inexperienced users, and we
will not support it, so do so at your own risk.

If you continue, some of the advanced features of Litestep will be disabled
such as the desktop. The wharf, hotkeys, and shortcuts will still work.

To get rid of this message next time, put LSNoShellWarning in your step.rc

i click yes it does those orther erros i click no and nothing happens lol... i have full access on this computer as i'm part of the companys IT team and i need full access to learn stuff. so i don't see why they would put any restrictions on my account... the only thing i believe they have on my account is something to trace my internet usage and sites i go on... but that wouldn't shouldn't cause any problems according its all server side....

Hope u can help me... how wouldi install it so it replaces the explorer shell??????

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-22 03:32:23 link

When does the explorer shell startup? You should be in LiteStep, go through your popup, and pick your new theme. Your old theme should close and then your new theme should appear.

Posted by member 344719 on 2006-09-22 05:30:55 link

the explorer shell never goes away... never gives me an option to restart or nothing... just all those errors and then it strts implementing the shell over top of the explorer shell

Posted by member 248213 on 2006-09-22 06:37:40 link

Have you installed Litestep? (set as shell)

there are heaps of tut's out there for it.

Posted by member 344719 on 2006-09-22 07:28:57 link

yeah the preinstalled litestep shell works fine... reboots the machine and works perfectly.... i got the copy off of this website

Posted by member 1 on 2006-09-22 12:59:16 link

Ok...so the explorer shell does go away according to that statement.

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-09-22 13:38:22 link

I guess the question is "When does the explorer shell start running?". Are you running XP with SP2? I think there was some sort of bug after SP2 where you have to run the installer, then logoff, then log back on and run setshell.exe to set the shell to LS again, and *then* reboot in order to get it to stick. Anybody have the link to that post?
