Ok, sorry if this has been posted before.
I've had litestep on my Desktop for the longest time. i recently got a laptop for college, and installed Litestep, since I like to have everything I owned customized to cater to my whims.
i have no time for anything but to ask -
I have a problem with themes. when i go to litestep > change themes, I can install them, and that's the only way I can set them, all that's there is install theme, and refresh list. The themes themselves aren't.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled, changed the way the themes were saved, and looked up any information I could...
but no matter what I do, they do not show up, please help.
I have to get going now, I'm in my campus Library, and I have math in 1/2 an hour, better get walking =P
thanks in advance - Jesse.
Your popup menu definitions must include the "themeslist.rc" file in your themes folder. It sounds like it has been removed from your menu. You should have something like this in personal\popup.rc:
*Popup "Change Themes" Folder
*Popup "Install Theme" !execute ["$LiteStepDir$utilities\LSThemeInstaller.exe"]
*Popup "Refresh List" !execute ["$LiteStepDir$utilities\LSThemeInstaller.exe" "/refresh"]
*Popup !Separator
include "$ThemesDir$themeslist.rc"
*Popup ~Folder
Well... is the themeslist.rc file actually there? Is there anything in it?
sounds like the themes are installed in some place like litestep\profiles\themes and it is looking at Documents and Settings\user\litestep\themes
[edit] ahhh, upon looking closer, I found that themeslist.rc is non existant, please give me a format to create it, and where exactly it goes please. Thanks in advance.
It should be created automatically if something else isn't screwed up with your install. Where are your themes and your personal folder? Does LSThemeInstaller run OK?
LSThemeInstaller is perfectly fine, whereas, the themeslist isn't, the themes are in C:\Program Files\LiteStep\themes
I dunno what's going on, but the ThemesList.RC doesn't exist in the litestep folder, or even on the C: drive (my only drive)
If you click refresh list the file should be regenerated.
Nope, I've refreshed multiple times, no such luck.
There should be a log file (LSThemeInstaller.log) in your utilities directory. Take a peek in there and see if there is any helpful info.
LiteStepDir found: [C:\Program Files\LiteStep]
PersonalDir found: [C:\Program Files\LiteStep\personal]
ThemesDir found: [C:\Program Files\LiteStep\themes]
LSThemeInstaller running from: [C:\PROGRA~1\LiteStep\utilities\LSThemeInstaller.exe]
parameter to LSThemeInstaller: [/refresh]
$ThemesDir$themeslist.rc has been refreshed (error)
I'm gonna say that this is pretty damn helpful, heh. If I had've peeked in there before, I probably would've attempted a few more things.
Aha! Litestep folder, and all subfolders are all read only, only problem is when I untick the Read Only box, and apply to all folders etc, it doesn't work, I click ok. And when I go into the folder properties once agian, it's ticked on. :(
Do you have admin privileges? Can you create new files (e.g., .txt) in the Themes folder? What *is* in that folder, anyway? Any names with weird characters in them or something?
I have the Admin account, I just went into the GP editor, and PC management and set up this account to be in every group except for users, I can right click > litestep > change themes > install themes, adnd I can manipulate files within litestep, but when I leave the folder and come back, the changes I made were erased.
It's kinda... Odd. this is a bit unlike my laptop, as I normally keep it well maintained.
I'm kinda unsure about this entire situation, I'm going to research the read only issue, and get back to you guys unless you have a solution, thanks for all your help so far.
"the changes I made were erased."
Huh?
Whatever the problem is, it sounds like it's with Windows rather than LS. That's just weird.
Now this is messed up.
I uninstalled, and reinstalled LS in a new root, etc. And I had a themeslist.rc, and I could see Austerity, When I installed 1 theme though, themeslist.rc was deleted....
Try installing LS somewhere besides "program files", e.g., c:\litestep, and see if that makes any difference.
Tried that, that's where I had my first issues,
So I tried PF.
