windowblinds Thread last updated on 2006-10-22 06:45:49

See, I was going to get windowblinds, but a couple people said it was crappy. They however aren't that technologically minded people. I don't like the regular xp themes, cause they are clunky and not function, also not good looking. Is windowblinds good enough to get? Or is it faulty and annoying? I thought I'd go straight to a source that would know.

I figured this question had already been asked, but I searched and searched, and couldn't find it, so I posted it. If it has been asked, could you not just close it and say, it's already been asked. A link would be helpful.

Thanks.

I just use Litestep and Visual Styles, works fine for me.

He means a hacked uxtheme.dll file...
In theory its the same as xp skinning for windows.

I may get blasted here but I've tried all windows skinning apps and
windowblinds works best for me.
Can't live without having the option to roll up my windows with a right click on the title bar!

Windowblinds also supports alpha channels and no other app at this time does!

It may be a little resource hog compared to the others but also has tons of options the others just dont.

If you got a nice fast machine with lots of spare memory than I would suggest windowblinds first.

If you are looking to use the native xp skinning stick with hacking your uxtheme.dll file.
But you will not get alpha or rollups :(

Well I don't have the money to buy windowblinds, and my computer is not the fastest. Kinda slow actually. But I really don't know shit about hacking uxtheme.dll. Guess I'll do some research...

Slow machine's like 3dcc!

I too like windowblinds, though. But I tend to bounce around between a few apps depending on my mood.

I've tried using WindowBlinds a few times in the past but I've always ended up going back to XP viusal styles or the good old solid color look. I dunno, I've just had lots of problems with it, having to exclude half of my apps from being skinned. Besides I've always felt that XP's visual styles are faster than WB. This was a number of years ago though, so maybe WB has changed for the better. Don't care anymore though, I don't want it nor any other skinned look. I like changing my interface often and that leads to problems if you're using WB/VS, you'll be stuck with just the colors the skinner included. You could edit the visual style of course, but that's a PITA. So now I'm using ECS for all my system color needs. Kicks 3DCC's butt ;)

While Windowblinds is a really kewl application Visual Styles destroys it in speed and size. As for rollups...well...I get them from somewhere. It might be my nVidia drivers doing it as I get rollups with Visual Styles. And Immortal...I don't think he was talking about hacking anything. I think you mean he was talking about purchasing StyleXP instead. *hint* *hint*

Right, wink wink, cough cough.

There is a seperate program you can use for alpha channels, per window. I don't use it though as I found I didn't like transparent windows that much. I don't know what you guys are referring to as rollups.

I don't know what you guys are referring to as rollups.

I believe they mean windowshade mode, i.e. the window is collapsed to just the titlebar. Common behavior in many Linux WMs.

You can do that with wndman.dll or winctrl.dll, too.

I take it rollups are only useful if you don't have a taskbar?

I think I'll let the rollup people answer that since I've never really understood the point of it (most likely it's just a question of what you're used to). :)

I usually use 3dcc/ecs schemes, but recently I have been modding the Flex VS and its pretty neat having patterns as your dialog bg's :D

I use rollups when I have a bunch of chat windows open as I use taskbar grouping and this way I know who was talking to me. Its about the only use I have found though.

Recommend you WindowBlinds.
It will give you the experience that other visual style never would.
Also many fantasy skins to download.
Have a shoot and you will know :)
