Well, you'd best fire up your text editor then. You're going to be very busy.

By the way, are themes the ones with more features or are shells?[I'm a newb at this]

A theme is a particular configuration of the options provided by a shell. One shell can have many themes, but not all at the same time.

A shell is an interface between a user and the guts of an operating system. One operating system can have many shells, but [usually] not all at the same time.

An operating system provides a method for interacting with and performing useful tasks on a piece of computer hardware. One piece of computing hardware can run multiple operating systems, but [usually] not at the same time (vmware and the like being an exception).

So, okay, liek so...I'm confused...Is it possible to make the Linux themes[shells, i don't know]as real as possible with like the sysbar?(same goes for other theme/shells)

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-08-18 23:52:57 link

If you're asking if it is possible to duplicate the look of a particular linux interface (KDE, Gnome, etc.) then the answer is 'yes', it can be pretty 'real'. If that's not what you're asking then... I don't know *what* the heck you're asking.

thats what i'm asking, yes

Posted by member 330907 on 2006-08-19 00:01:17 link

so will you please do it?

Heh I like this thread.

Chris, I don't think you're quite understanding the scope of creating a theme. Especially the type you're asking for. While not that hard to make, they would be extremely time consuming to do well.

So... you should pick some from the ones that have already been done. Look here, ls-themes.org, ls-universe.info, nbi-studio.com, skinz.org, customize.org, etc. There's only a few thousand to choose from.

Yeah...go look at like West's profile. Only question I have is...what kind of theme can you really have for Ubuntu?

Posted by member 330907 on 2006-08-19 01:28:56 link

What do you mean?

Posted by member 330907 on 2006-08-19 01:33:35 link

:"( What if I cut it down to Redhat, Ubuntu, SUSE, and Mandrake?

Posted by member 5575 on 2006-08-19 01:47:01 link

Erm... why are you even running windows then?

Posted by member 330907 on 2006-08-19 01:51:09 link

Cause I'm too lazy to go download Linux :(

if you don't stop flooding my forums I am going to have to hurt you. This is your second warning.

As for what you didn't understand...Ubuntu is a distribution of Linux. It doesn't look like anything so you can't use it's design as a shell. You really need to get your head around what LiteStep is and what you are asking to be designed. Until then I am going to lock this thread to save you from the flaming.
