DVD Playback On Omar Thread last updated on 2006-06-24 04:20:27

For some reason whenever I play DVD's while using the LS shell there is a large black box around the video. You can only see like 5mm on the edge of the box. This also happens in Fullscreen. I have used both PowerDVD and Windowze Media Player 9/10/11. None of them display correctly. Whenever I set Explorer back as shell its fine. No problem at all.

Do you have an alpha-shaded pixel at (0,0)? This has been known to cause video problems. Do a forum search for more info.

Nope. It also happens on every theme that I have tried. Even the default one.

even without anything loaded? (rename/back up step.rc, create a blank step.rc)

also, try it without litestep running.

Display properties->settings->advanced, troubleshooting tab. Try lowering the acceleration slider.

@tnl
It doesnt matter if LS is running or not for some reason. I ran the player through taskman and same thing. I will try when I get on later if removing the step.rc will make any difference

@Cerbie
There is no option to lower the acceleration on PowerDVD. Just turn it on then off. Id be happy to run no HW acceleration if I had an Athlon X2 4200+ or something; This P3 just cant handle it.

Cerbie's recommendation was to lower the graphics acceleration on the system via the Display option in the Control Panel.

Thank you DeViL for actually helping once. :) j/k man. Yea i had to turn it almost all the way down. Like the 3rd Setting from the lowest. May I ask what causes this? I doubt its a problem with the gfx card considering it works fine with explorer.

xcal: yeah, back. Short and very uninteresting story: waterbed leaked (but nothing obvious), and had stuff growing all in it. Fixed that, feeling better, catching up and relearning my scripts :).

I don't know why the black box thing happens, but it has been happening since a few months after I got a GF4 (started after a driver update)--so, years.
