help with litestep Thread last updated on 2006-04-19 14:04:51

hey, I downloaded litestep the other day and I really, really enjoy using it. the only problem I have is it seems to lag my computer. it takes about 5-10 seconds to open My Computer (after I've clicked a link to it) and other applications like Firefox. in games I get frame spikes, so it might be running at a constant 100fps then drop to 20-30fps then go back to 100. where as with explorer I've never had these problems.

I've taken a screenshot of the running processes when using explorer and when using litestep:
explorer - http://fs.e-hax.com/explorer.jpg
litestep - http://fs.e-hax.com/litestep.jpg

(as far as I can see there isn't a memory leak or anything)

my computer specs are:
AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3500+ @ 2211MHz
(RAM) 1GB, 689.64MB free
(HDDs) 186GB, 34.7GB free
(VGA1) NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT (128MB)

any help would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Just a friendly advice... try getting rid of some unnecessary processes you have running and see if that helps. There's some pointless things in there like StyleXPService.exe and jusched.exe that you can remove right away (possibly also wuauclt.exe). Also, are you aware that you seem to be running both StyleXP and WindowBlinds?

Run windows update, or alternatively stop and restart the service if you've got automatic updates turned on in *any* fashion, e.g., even just notification. See if that gets rid of the CPU spikes.
