Downloading Updates Thread last updated on 2006-04-06 14:05:25

When I first downloaded LiteStep, it worked and caused me not one problem.

For some reason or another I changed to Windows and I go back to LiteStep later and it tries to install these updates for the bar, popup, and so on. I should have written them down...

It claims that it cannot connect to the server. I understand that the one day I couldn't connect to the LiteStep website but now it just can update.

And when it's done, my toolbar is completely gone, as well as my desktop icons. Only my wallpaper is there.

Does anyone know what the problem may be? I downloaded the automatic setup.

Thanks for any help at all.

Some of the sites that host LS modules have gone AWOL. If you've only got those older sites in your list of possible hosts, then you'll not be able to download anything. In particular, you should have these two, both of which are still in operation AFAIK:

*NetLoadModuleSite "http://www.loose-screws.com/download.php?netloadmodule=" ".zip"
*NetLoadModuleSite "http://www.ls-universe.info/download/modules/"

Those lines go in your step.rc in your LiteStep directory, and are used by all themes. Add them and then recycle and see if things improve.

You may also experience problems if you're using a proxy server; in that case (or if the *netloadmodule site changes don't help) you should make a note of the modules that a theme needs and download the zip files manually from ls-universe.info. Stick the zip files in your modules/archive folder and try recycling once again.

Thanks for your help, but strangely, none of the above links seem to work...

One of them *must* be working, because modules download fine for me. Have you installed or upgraded your firewall software since the last time you successfully used LS?

Jewel: If you're just putting the links in your browser, they'll appear to not work... but they're not meant for your browser - they just go in your step.rc for NLM to use.
