Litestep ate my system tray... Thread last updated on 2006-04-04 10:47:36

Hi all,

Been using Litestep for a while now, mostly Xcals Fat Bar themes. I decided to try out some other themes and didnt like any of them, so I went back to FBL Dynamic and I noticed none of the system tray tasks showed up. I thought it was bug so I recycled, still nothing. I changed to a few other themes and none of them would show me my system tray. I rebooted, same results.

I thought maybe something else was hosed, so I reverted back to the Windows shell (ugh! Forgot how awful that really is!) and the system tray works just fine.

Anyone ever heard of Litestep suddenly not wanting to show the system tray? I'm a bit baffled here...

Sounds like you installed some ObjectDock application.

Funny you should mention that, I did install Object Bar. And I suspected that, so I unloaded it but I still have no system tray.

yup...it doesn't uninstall everything. There is a system tray manager they install and put in your registry to run. Remove that and you should be good to go.

Grab autoruns from sysinternals.com. It'll show you all the nasty buggers in every possible startup location - and let you disable the ones you don't want.

To clarify, I didnt uninstall Object Bar, I just unloaded it. Do I have to uninstall it to get my system tray back?

Is there anyway to make these two coexist? I like the options that Object Bar gives me but if it is not going to play nice with Litestep than it's going to be history!

Thanks,

There's some executable that runs in the background, installed along with object bar. systray.exe or something like that. Disable that from running on startup and you'll get your tray icons back. You don't have to uninstall - but you can't have the tray in both places. I don't know if Object bar will run happily if the tray app isn't running though.
