i just registered here (been hearing a lot about litestep in the past while.) and i installed litestep and it seems to be working quite well. im using it on a windows 98 machine with a PII 366mhz and 256mb of ram. the only problem im having right now is that when i boot the computer up i get an error message saying it cant find module. heres the error
"C:\Litestep\Modules\Textedit-2.4I-13.dll"
"Error: Could not locate module."
"Please check your configuration."
is there anyway i can get this error to stop showing up. it gets annoying when i start the computer. seems like a great program and im planning on using it on my school laptop (pentium II 233 with 64mb of ram and windows 98) seems like a waste of a perfectly good program over one small problem. id really like to get this resolved. thanks!

Search does work - you just have to be inside the forum. What build of litestep are you using?
im using the latest version on the site there, not the beta version, but the final one. im also using windows 98 First release. i installed litestep on my 98 SE machine and i dont get the error so its obviously a conflict with windows 98. any other ideas? 98 SE doesnt work too well with the hardware in my 366. (it wont shut down properly and my network card acts up)

---edit---
i have a question about the austerity theme. in the taskbar, can i get rid of that thing that has 3 buttons? when you click on one, it changes the background, i want to get rid of them because my machine only is 800X600 and it takes up a lot of taskbar space.
SHIFT-Click on the desktop, go to { bar options > disable quicklaunch icons }.
If you're getting a textedit error on austerity, just change themes. That's a pretty old module, and there's lots out there better than Austerity.
i upgraded to windows 98 se and the error is gone. can you give me any good themes for an older computer. i dont want to have too much load on the cpu when im doing stuff, mainly because i will be running on battery most of the time in school. i want to prolong the battery as long as i can. i can get 1 and a half hours now, but i need at least 2 - 3 hours. i dont know if this program will help much, but any amount is great, thanks for the replie.
basically stick away from any theme with any sort of transparency. Not only will they not work with 98, but if the themer is nice enough to make it work it is bloated as hell.
I do not think LS will give you half an hour more battery time. Even Explorer uses
ah well, thats ok. ill just keep the austerity theme on. its nice. i just wanna get rid of those virtual desktop buttons in the bottom corner near the left. on a laptop like this i find them useless. thanks for all the replies!

Read the austerity readme/documentation to learn how to disable various aspects (e.g. virtual desktop). As for why textedit wasn't loading, you probably were missing a dependant .dll.
And when someone asks what version you are using, saying "the latest on the website" doesn't help. As for Litestep, you can always obtain the core version and module versions from executing the !about bang command.
