Small desktop issue Thread last updated on 2006-03-23 03:52:14

I only found out that Litestep existed yesterday, when I was looking in some desperation for an alternative to Windows Explorer, which had got so screwed that within ten minutes of clicking "My Computer", Explorer would be using 90% or more of the CPU, everything would slow right down, and I'd have to go to the task manager, stop Explorer, start it again, and repeat ten minutes later. Ad infinitum. So now I'm using Litestep, with this thing called Windows File Explorer (also discovered yesterday) as my file manager.

I like Litestep, and I'm quite happy with the Austere theme, but it does seem a little ridiculous to me that I should be denied the option to remove certain icons from my desktop - Internet Explorer, My Documents, etc. I never use any of those things. Is there any reason for them to be stuck there? Are there any themes which allow these icons to be removed? Is there a nice simple way around it?

It's a very very minor issue, and one which I can live with, but it would be nice not to have to. If anyone can assist me, it would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers. :)

Desktop icon behavior is theme/module specific.

You'll find most themes indicate modules used in the theme.rc. The docs for the modules can be found in \modules\docs.

Hold shift and left click your desktop for Austerity's option menu (shift left click is a standard popup for themes that include options).

Oh... and stick to only OTS2 themes until you're more familiar with Litestep.

That kind of behavior in explorer sounds like a virus. Check your system.
