Help with emulating a gradient dropshadow. Thread last updated on 2006-02-28 20:27:02

I have been using popup 2.1.6 for a while now.

and aware of its alpha limitations only.. solid magenta will be transparent.

I read about grdTransparent.dll which can set a whole module transparent.

but I am trying to add a dropshadow, so I need a way to fake 32 bit alpha (I thought doing a black to magenta gradient would do the trick.........but no go.)

I am just trying to add a dropshadow to the popup that displays my programs.

Maybe there is another module I could use that has 32 bit alpha support?

Thank You

Thanks West.

could you post a standard default config for the module one that just loads your program list, I will modify it from there thanks.

There's very good documentation for xPopup :)

It'll be pretty different from popup2, but you'll get it converted over :) Also, the dropshadow is super easy it's right there in the docs :)

yAy...jdub has learned. :)

kryptonian...why don't you post your config and find out why xPopupDropShadow isn't working for you, or the alpha trans setup. Either way...ask for help...not hand holding.

actally its all good dropshadow was is working.........because it first needs to be turned on in windows xp effects.

But I am still having trouble with making my own drop shadow via png transparency.

West I have your xbar theme very nice I am using that as a default config.

you are using solid colors and grd. now assuming I want to use make my own dropshadow via a png how would I add it with your config?

my problem is that when i turn alphamap on and truetransparent on when I move the mouse over a popup item the popup closes it dosent see my mouse.

I'm glad you like xBar, but since it's a solid color theme it's not a good base for what you're trying to accomplish. Have a look at this theme instead; it uses images with alphamapped shadows.

oh yes I was doing the righ thing from the start but the fact was all about my 3dlabs drivers they are kinda useless when it comes to konfabulator. won't see mouse clicks. and when I used xpopup same issue the popup could not see my mouse.

I had to brind down the hardware accel in diplay prop, it's fine now.

can someone tell me exactly what xpopup has to enable the alpha so I can tell 3dlabs support exactly what the drivers can't handle, thank you.

"can someone tell me exactly what xpopup has to enable the alpha"... huh?... "so I can tell 3dlabs support exactly what the drivers can't handle"... huh?...

Sorry, I'm not trying to be an ***, just being informal ;)
(to clarify)

And Dev I've always been on-board the no hand-holding policy, I just usually prefix my link to the wiki with a detailed explaination of why they need to read the wiki ;)

My question has nothign to do on useing the module, but on what xpopup uses (development or coding) to enable alpha support on png files.

becasue when I enable alpha the xpopup will no see my mouse hovering over the xpopup, its an issue with 3dlabs drivers.

But I wan to know exactly what xpopup uses is it a directX thing to enable png alpha?

Probably layered windows. Note that if the alpha is set to 0 for a pixel, it is expected for the mouse to click through the window.
