I've been out of the community for awhile, grinding away as a FedEx email developer. I used to run LSWeb, if any of you remember that.
What's the latest build of LS?
What have I missed in LS development since phoenix died?
I haven't been involved since about 2002.
Ravenhall
Ok. Is there a recent 'State of the Step' somewhere that can catch me up?
Found it, under 'Articles.' Isn't 2004 a bit old? Might it not be time for the development team to release another 'State of the Step?'
-Right on the front page of that link is a Saturday 17 December 2005 release.
-If you click on change log, the last entry is 2006-01-04.
-If you go to downloads, experimental builds, the last one is 13 Jan : 16:07.
-Last in the change log is 2006-01-25.
Don't be scared to click on other links and do some reading. No, it's not a "state of the step," but it will bring you up to date.
Might be a bit old...but it is the last one. :)
xcal,I've already read the changelogs.
The State of the Step, however, always gave much more insight into what direction development was moving. Its value has often been misunderstood, as evidenced by its all too infrequent release.
If I hadn't been involved in 4 years, I'd find change logs and builds more valuable, but that's just me.
You might find the
irc logs, interesting. Particularly the lsdev channel.
Thanks for the tip regarding the irc logs. I've never been much of one for IRC, so hopefully I can dig through and find some good discussions I've missed.
I'll just reiterate that SotS, while not a panacea, was always great for bringing everyone up to speed on what's cooking for LS. Of course, it would be much more useful if it was updated quarterly rather than semi-bi-annually ....
A status update will be posted "soon". We are still hashing out some details/structure internally.
Awesome.
What ever came of the cooperation between geoshell and LS from the Phoenix/Raptor concept? Did it die out with the effort?
Actually, I'm the opposite, I find change logs really only useful for when I'm keeping up with a project. When I've been gone for a long time I find it better to have an overview of features in the latest build as change logs are very incremental and it can take a long time to find any new features that have been created.
