LiteStep has nothing to do with windows skinning.

sorry. maybe i didnt explain correctly, or maybe i have it wrong.

but does litestep change where the minimise and maximise buttons are? i was sure that it did...

Posted by member 1885 on 2006-01-28 08:36:36 link

Nope. The only thing it does is change your desktop and interface. To change the visual style of Windows in general you need a patched uxtheme.dll (so you can use 3rd-party msstyles) or WindowBlinds.

How many times are we going to have to tell people this?

Posted by member 1885 on 2006-01-28 19:52:38 link

Suggestion for ls.net signup: "BY ACCEPTING THIS AGREEMENT I SOLEMNLY VOW THAT I FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT LITESTEP DOES NOT SKIN WINDOWS."

Also... there's something I don't get. There's thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of fourms on the web. How come ls.net is getting all the people that have never used one before?

Posted by member 12025 on 2006-01-28 20:34:49 link

Because all the theme sites have ls.net as the LS home.

Posted by member 302052 on 2006-01-29 01:11:19 link

^^ as above.

i have used litestep before. ages ago when it made my old p200mmx crash because i had no idea what i was doing :D

polyseal :: So let me get this straight. You asked a question again that has been answered over 100 times...and even has 2 stickies for it...because you have used LiteStep before and because some other website told you that we were the LS hub?

hmm glad you could be helped. i believe with better installers litestep should be easier. first time i used litestep i had no idea what i was doing but then i sorta figured it out and with the help of our great community here i'm gaining more knowledge about LS :D

Posted by member 302052 on 2006-02-02 19:35:29 link

so. let me see if i have this correct then.

litestep = shell
litestep =/= theme

can u use litestep and say... stylexp or windowblinds at the same time?

Jeeze guys....

I'll likely get banned for this but damn. You wonder why Litestep isn't growing and why themes are comming out at 1/10th the speed they did in the old days? hmmmm...

They call them n00bs for a reason, they don't know anything. The vast majority don't search and read, they never have. They come here for answers and all you guys can do is bash and ban. It's really sad.

I've been a teacher for many years and the 1 thing that keeps me going is kids brave enough and interested enough to ask questions. I don't care how mundane, ignorant or off the wall. If they want to learn I do EVERYTHING possible to ensure they do. I do everything possible to depen their interests, improve their skills and expand their understanding.

I don't ban them from the studio for asking where the brushes are when the drawer lables "BRUSHES" is 2 feet away.

Lighten up and help the newbies out any way you possibly can. Ridicule and banning at whim does nothing but breed contempt and ignorance.

On BOTH sides.

I personally don't mind noobs and their questions, aslong as they show they're willing to make some kind of effort.

Posted by member 1 on 2006-02-13 04:47:32 link

Havoc One: maybe you would like to take over answering all of the questions then.

Posted by member 1949 on 2006-02-13 09:59:28 link

he has a point deV...

Posted by member 1885 on 2006-02-13 11:50:59 link

A majority of the noobs that come in here are, or so I believe, lazy eye candy-loving brats from Wincustomize who are only interested in making their desktops look as hip as possible. Most of them don't really care about the power of LS, they just want to get it running with as little effort as possible. Hence they don't give a hoot about stickies and FAQs and the LS community in general. Coming into any form of web community with that kind of attitude is very rude and I don't see why we -- the regulars here and the admins -- should put up with it. OK, so you've been a teacher for many years you say. Well, I'm fairly certain you're being paid for your work. Seeing as this is a noncommercial project and a noncommercial site I don't think we have any obligations to be helpful or even polite if we deem that the person asking the questions just want quick answers and isn't really interested in learning. Also, I fail to see how answering the same foolish questions ten times a day will help LS grow. On the contrary I think it might lead to complete stagnation since we'd end up with no one in the community being able to figure things out for him/herself.

If you feel that the noobs need help and you don't mind answering questions no matter "how mundane, ignorant or off the wall", then feel free to help out. Ridicule and banning might breed contempt and ignorance, but how is complaining and not doing anything about the situation any more constructive?

Here here!

"I've been a teacher for many years and the 1 thing that keeps me going is kids brave enough and interested enough to ask questions."

I'm not a teacher myself but I have tought privately (tutoring, music instructions, etc). Also my parents are both life-long teachers. There is a difference between the student who asks a question when he just doesn't get something, and the student who asks a question at every single challenge. Questions are good for clarification, but if little Billy keeps raising his hand and his questions are "what's 2+2?", "what's 2+3?", "what's 2+4?", then you'd be a pretty irresponsible teacher if your responses were just "4, 5, 6".
