LSMail socket or blank error Thread last updated on 2006-01-11 16:51:11

I am trying to set up LSMail to check my school email (mail.msu.edu): "*LSMailServer 0 0 "School " mail.msu.edu:110 username" I have tried setting the port to various numbers above and below 1024. Below, I get the error "Could not connect to mail.msu.edu:[port#], socket error." Above, I get a small, blank (except for an Ok button) error box. I have tried searching the forum, and didn't find anything useful within recent-looking LSMail stuff.

doesnt the port have to be what your school mail servers port is?

does your school mail even do pop? (mine used to be only webmail...)

I checked the documentation for the school's email about setting up Thunderbird to use with it, and it says to use port 995. Tried that, and now I get a "Receive Timed Out" message every minute or so, and the last error is reported as "No data received from server." Is the problem on my end or my school's server not responding quick enough?

Stupid question, but you are including your login's password in your config, right?

Yup, got that in the config.

Basically you need to read your school's mail webpage:
http://mail.msu.edu/

Look at the FAQ on configuring an email client to access their systems.

LSMail can't handle SSL connections. Enjoy.

Ahh, I didn't know the module couldn't do SSL connections. That doesn't seem to be mentioned in it's documentation.

I think you're looking at it wrong, the documentation would explicitly state it supported SSL if it did. The absence indicates that it does not. :) Take care.
