Do old Themes work in XP? Thread last updated on 2005-12-15 15:11:39

Hi, I've been using BlueNIX by LenIx since he released it in 1999. Used it on win98 and win2k. I now have WinXP Pro on my machine, and I'm having a hard time getting it to run.

Should it work or am I wasting my time trying to make it work?

As an XP user, am I limited to OST2 themes only?

I know there are modules that run on XP and not 9x, but the other way around? Never heard of any modules that require 9x.

Anyway, you're basically running a stone age theme and I think you would benefit from a) switching to a OTS2-compatible setup and b) finding a newer theme, alternatively creating an updated version of BlueNIX (if you've used LS since 1999 you shouldn't have any problems with that, I think). LiteStep has come a loooong way since 1999.

To add to this, I found an updated version of nixBLUE into the OTS2 standard. I'll make some fixes myself, but this should work out.

For some reason I just can't get away from this theme, I've been using it for so long and configured it just the way I like it...I'd hate to have to start all over with a brand new theme.

Customize.org still the best place to find new/good themes?

"Good" is such a relative word, and you certainly can't count on their ranking system (the mods ranking Litestep themes there don't even use it :P).

As for finding new themes, this site is probably the best.
