I get this error message from time to time,

an error occurred while connecting
Error code 12029

and it seems to be related to not having an active internet connection.
Since I can't search the forums, I try to post here, I did try google as well.

MSDN says (found with Google):

12029 ERROR_INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT
The attempt to connect to the server failed.

Now, as to what is trying to connect, to what, and why, I don't have a clue. What programs are you running? There were references to errors like this in the Trillian user groups, having to do with connections to MSN Messenger. This isn't really LiteStep related though.

I will investigate to see if it could have something to do with messenger, but I don't run trillian.
I also noticed now that there are probaly two messages, cause now this came up:

Titlebar: LiteStepSyndication, by Xjill
Messege: An error occurred while connecting-
Error code: 12007

I failed to mention or note the titlebar of the previous message. I'll check on that too.
Thank you for you assistance :-)

The real question, I suppose then, is what programs or LS modules you have running that might be trying to access the internet. If you have firewall software you ought to be able to see which programs or DLL's are active at any given time. You could also just open a DOS window and run 'netstat -b' or 'netstat -ab'.

Ok, without internet I get
12007: The server name could not be resolved.
with internet I get
12029: The attempt to connect to the server failed.

I have also tried to turn off messenger, but it didn't make a difference.
I don't have a firewill installed, but I could install one. Suggestions?
Netstat -ab gives a great deal of information, but I don't quite see how to identify the troublemaker from that.
Isn't there a way to identify the process that the error messege belongs to?

Ok, when the message comes up, I kill the litestep application, and the message window disappers, but starting litestep up again the message is still there. Could that indicate that they actually belong to something else? (I does seem unlikely, since the window is named after litestep)

is the theme maybe loading a module that needs to connect to the internet, but can't for some reason? what modules are being loaded?

Hi, you posted "Titlebar: LiteStepSyndication, by Xjill"

I would suggest disabling or fixing the configuration of the LSSyndication module.
