Moving Desktop Icons (newbie) Thread last updated on 2005-12-15 14:47:15

Hey Everyone,

Today is my first day using LiteStep, and so far I am loving it. However, I am interested moving the desktop icons around. I have seen rumors about modifying something in the theme.rc file, but have not found a good reference. Any the FAQ or tutorial sites I have tried are down. Can someone point me to a good working reference or give me a short tutorial on how to set this up. (I don't know if it is plausible, but something like Ctrl+M+Left-click).

Sincerely,
LordOrphen

It all depends on what module your theme is using to display the desktop icons.

Are you still using the default theme? Austerity?

If you are then your using icondesk-0.66 and (to the best of my knowledge) this module doesn't support moving the desktop icons.

However, xDesktop does. I suggest you learn how to load modules, and change the *NetLoadModule line that references icondesk to xDesktop.

Then just read the docs for xDesktop and start going for it :)

Good luck :)

Another thing, http://wiki.litestep.com/ has some instructions on xdesktop, once you disable icondesk.

Thanks jdub & xcal for the input. Yes, I am using the default "Austerity" module. I will look at xdesktop and module loading.

If I have time and made a pdf document outlining the process, can I upload it here some where. ;) for the future new users? --> "Pictures are worth a thousand... well etc..."

Sincerely,
LordOrphen

Do I just change this line:

*NetLoadModule icondesk-0.66

to
*NetLoadModule xDesktop

?

*holds out a silver platter*

*NetLoadModule xDesktop-1.7.6

Now is that what you wanted?
