themeswitcher question - yes, newb Thread last updated on 2005-10-25 17:45:07

i've used litestep before, but it's been ages (before OTS). i loved the versatility, but it became too much of a pain in the ass to add anything new, or change themes..
i know, you don't want history =p sorry
for whatever reason, when i came across tobbe's losi install, i downloaded and installed it. works great!
right up until i try to change themes. if i popup the menu - litestep/change themes and then choose a theme, all of the needed modules download nicely, the theme loads, and i'm left with a small themeswitcher dialog box in the middle of the screen which has the theme name and an ok button on it. if i click it, it reloads the theme... click the x, it reloads the theme.. only way i can get rid of it is to kill it with the task mgr.

but wait, there's more *smile*
if i use the menu --- litestep/utilities/themeswitcher, it opens up and i get a nice list of all my themes... i chose one, it loads, downloads the necessary modules as needed, and then there's a box (again) in the middle of my screen that says would you like to change back to default theme with yes and no buttons. no matter which one i click, or just close the box, the default loads... i've gotten around this by just changing the default theme to whichever one i want to load, but i'm thinking that this really shouldn't be necessary..

so.. am i just being a ditz, or what...?

Where ever you got Tobbe's installer from, there should have been an amazing array of warnings stating its still in beta development.

DONT USE LOSI IF YOU ARE A N00B!!!

Use Omar's installer: available in the downloads section of this very site ;)

Posted by member 212670 on 2005-10-23 00:25:13 link

If you're just wanting to run Litestep, you should use Omar's installer and update the build to RC3. LOSI is currently only in the test phase and is still being coded. If you feel it's not behaving properly, report it as a bug to the author. You can find a prefered bug template on the LOSI site, aswell as the email address to send it to.

edit - ok, and what fractal said. :D

Or if you are asking where to send a bug report for LOSI, look at this: http://www.student.lth.se/~dt05tl3/losi/whatdo.html

xcal you creep

You guys are actually starting to freak me out with this "coincidental" posting in unison.

I'm actually toying with the idea of you being multiple-personalities of the same person.

That person, namely, being Cerbie.

Posted by member 212670 on 2005-10-23 13:40:33 link

Haha nice...

edit - ok cool, fractal didn't post.

Posted by member 248213 on 2005-10-23 23:28:06 link

So fractal xcal and cerbie are the same person???

Their forces combined, they are ...

Bags we keep my hair when we merge, trust me, you'll agree when you see it ;)

Why would I argue with myself half the time (and over evars I'd just make part of a table, even)? :)

Why would I make such a scripting-light theme as FBL? :)

Why would I work on two themes for over two years and still have nothing to release for it? Oh, wait, I'm still doing that... :)

I can totally dig somebody else's hair, though, if I have to change bodies. I got super thick hair--It takes forever to wash if I don't keep it really short.

Because you have a deep-seeded love for simple bar themes that you still haven't come to terms with. :D

Cause tables only exist in lslua, this is just ls we are arguing about (if I am acurate about what we are arguing about...)
evars are simple nice.
so are tables, but tables are lua...

simple bar themes

nice one xcal ;)

saying FBL is "simple" knocks about 90% of all LS themes into the "So stupidly lame and minimal its like there is no shell at all, just a button for START" category.
if you think FBL is simple, you should see my new theme!

!recycle to change settings! :o
taskbar -> tray -> time :]

how come we never discuss anything "serious" as ls.net? it always seems to be helping out n00bs and cracking jokes...

:D

I'll miss you geeks

Posted by member 212670 on 2005-10-24 18:35:42 link

Well, FBL is pretty straight forward. I'm more proud of FBL Dynamic. =) It's really what FBL should have been to start with. ;) I'm actually working on something else in the same vein, but I'm trying to balance out options and work in interesting features.

You'll miss us? How can you miss us if you won't go away?! Er... are you going away?

Posted by member 248213 on 2005-10-24 20:40:19 link

Got to take care of RL stuff ;) But I will always be watching!

xcal, I think we are working on the same ideas for themes.

"Dynamicality" (cool name for a theme maybe, like Austerity, but Dynamic, ali... lol!)

But I am sure mine will be way cooler ;P

Posted by member 212670 on 2005-10-24 21:18:51 link

RL stuff... sounds mysterious. I'm going to pretend you've met some large women online who will be tying you up and giving you regular spankings.

I'm actually trying to move a bit away from tons of options, but I keep getting sucked back in.

How long are you going to be MIA for?

Oh, btw, OP, incase you haven't noticed, this isn't your thread anymore, sorry. :D

Posted by member 248213 on 2005-10-24 21:46:22 link

Well, that about sums it up. I am hoping anyway :]

haha! ;)

About the options: tell me about it.
Code something up, then you realise you dont like it, then you think "Maybe someone else would like it like that though" so you add an option for it.

MIA: Only a couple months, maybe longer. I hope to do a computer study (of somesort) next year so I will definetly be able to theme LS.

Dont worry, I think I will always be involved somehow, just sucks I cant do it for a job ;)

Posted by member 12025 on 2005-10-24 22:41:39 link

Hah. If I didn't have to budget my time, or even got paid for something like this, that would be unreal.

Posted by member 248213 on 2005-10-24 23:14:27 link

Yeah, that would be so neato... We should start an interface design company ;)

With Andymon ofcourse ;]

Posted by member 212670 on 2005-10-24 23:23:46 link

So, since you and me are just alter egos of Cerbie, it would basically just be Cerbie and Andymon??

Posted by member 248213 on 2005-10-24 23:29:19 link

Sure.

Bags being the alter ego that gets to laze around and get payed while the other ego's+Andymon do the work ;]

And we keep my hair too remember!!!

Posted by member 12025 on 2005-10-25 00:59:08 link

LOL (really)

Posted by member 3861 on 2005-10-25 11:45:50 link

As an interface design company, the best bets would be to team with ankle and kugaku (have you seen some of their websites?! they obviously know what they are doing).

Andymon would be necessary for the organization of everything though.

Posted by member 248213 on 2005-10-25 17:45:07 link

If I was going to make a UI design company, all the LS regulars would be involved some way or another.

Atleast when we get big enough ;)

Could be interesting: Theming for a purpose, rather than theming for its own sake :D

PS: What are some of ankle and kugaku's sites?
