Taking the plunge.... Editing my current theme Thread last updated on 2003-03-20 20:36:23

After about a week of searching for the Perfect desktop through desktopX, Objectbar and finally LiteStep, i've decided to just take a theme I like and edit it to my personal needs.

I went to http://lsdocs.shellfront.org/ and checked that out. LiteStep is acually alot easier than I had orginally anticipated.

I've already done some really basic stuff like editing the pop-up to suit my needs and taking out all the !playwav commands. I want to relocate the taskbar, but how do find the X/Y positions of specific places on my desktop?

Oh and I just noticed something. My systray isn't working. :o( It doesn't have my virus scanner from startup. If I send something to the systray it just disapears.

For the X,Y, Theres 2 ways I know of:

1. There is a module somewhere that you load up and will give you the X,Y coordinates of where your mouse it. I'm not sure what it's called. If I think of it later, I'll post a link.

2. The way I do it, probably the hard way. Take a screenshot of your desktop and paste it as a new image in photoshop. Then in the info box change the X,Y to pixels and it will give you the coordinates.

As for the systray, maybe your theme hides the systray at start and has to have a bang command to open it. What theme is it?

It's BioHazardII Blue. Very minimalistic. The systray is there, i've even moved it's position in step.rc. It's just not showing anything.

There's a little program called "CursorSpot"...

The systray is missing because you have installed DesktopX. You need to disable TrayServer from your startup list and then you shouldn't have a problem. Hope that works for you. :)
