Why can't I load ckVWM? Thread last updated on 2005-10-21 18:59:21

I'm currently trying to replace rabidVWM in the nonstepII theme with ckVWM in hopes of fixing that sticky windows problem. I put "*NetLoadModule ckVWM-1.42" in my theme.rc, but whenever I recycle litestep I get a strange error. I think it says "error: Exception during module initilization, please contact module writer", or something to that effect. I've tried everything I can possibly think of, but it just refuses to load the module. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

No, rabidVWM is not an option. That ridiculous sticky window issue renders it completely useless, and Windowblinds has way too many little glitches.

I could be wrong, but doesn't ckVWM suffer from the same 'sticky window issue'?

Many people seem to say that ckVWM has fixed that problem.

Ooooh too easy...

Has to do with programs not staying on a desktop, or programs that do stay on a desktop, even when the vwm desk is changed - not sure which problem he's having. :P I do know there's a bug with Visual Styles and maxed windows when changing desktops.

yeah... maximized windows will "follow" you when you try to change desktops.

I actually came across a post on customize.org from somebody who claims to have fixed the problem with ckVWM, but all he said was that he removed a few lines from his step.rc. Way too ambiguous to be of any help. Anyone have any ideas what he could have meant?

oh, yeah I hate that... But RabidCow explained it was a bug with windows, nothing a module could do to fix it.

sporky: wheres the link to that?

Posted by member 1316 on 2005-10-03 11:27:51 link

no, Rabidcow couldn't fix it cause he doesn't (or at least didn't at the time :P ) have Windows XP. :P ckvwm has had a fix for it for a while now. I would use it myself, but it has another annoying bug which just bugs me too much for me to use it...

Its in the comment by "Nakoom". I might try to contact him about it. It might not be a bad idea to shoot off an email to the author of ckVWM too, since other people seem to be having this problem.

yeah, seems pretty ambiguous eh...

Posted by member 204404 on 2005-10-05 00:39:55 link

hmmm, the offending code could also be somewhere in my theme.rc or personal.rc now that I think about it.

yeah, there is alot of VWM settings in personal.rc... try those.

Some times I wish I were un-vegetatively excited
Other times I wish serious damage to those enchroaching my clan

soccer, don't hijack threads :P

Also, you could take the time to look around and you'll quickly find an answer to your question.

Like... here for example: http://o-t-s.sourceforge.net/

And... even more appropriately: http://o-t-s.sourceforge.net/theme_installation.html

dude, your question wasn't even REMOTELY similar to the thread topic...

try to load ckVWM alone. does it work?
if it is, start to enable another modules one-by-one and find the module incompatible with ckVWM...
if it doesn't work without everything else, you can try to write here operation system you're running on and tools running in background (another VWM? =) ) and wait for the answer...

it is bad idea since this stupid lamer stopped to view his mailbox since June 2005... may be only sometimes... =)

one small problem: The !VWMMoveApp bang doesn't work when a window is maximized. Other than that its perfect.
