Before anyone tells me.I read
http://litestep.rtreal.com/ three times already and just don't get it.I looked around for info too but didn't work.I downloaded LiteStep and it works perfectly.But now,I want to use a different theme.So I download a theme in wincustomize.com and unzip it.What I did now was move the unzipped folder to C:\LiteStep\profiles\myname\themes.Then I what I did next was go to my desktop and clicked refresh list.Clicked on the name of the newly downloaded theme and it sort of worked...but not really. Can anyone tell me a really simple way to install a theme after I download it?I tried searching for the answer but I can't find it. I don't know. :S
If a theme is an OTS2 theme rename the file to whatever_the_theme_name_is.lsz and double click on it in explorer.
"it sort of worked...but not really" isn't a very good explanation of what went wrong. Also, as has been mentioned before, it's generally a good idea telling us what particular theme you're having problems with. As for installing themes, your approach (i.e. unzipping it to that folder) *should* work I think, but then again I don't normally use LS Installer. Have you made sure the theme is OTS2 compliant? Wincustomize has a lot of ancient LS themes that you shouldn't let anywhere near a modern LiteStep installation.
To DeVilboi:Come again,whattt? *sigh*
To West:Ah I knew someone was going to say that.Where else do you suggest I download themes other than the ones on this site? So for example I downloaded this one.
http://www.litestep.net/index.php?section=2&action=details&id=285
I download it and it works sort of,I mean the taskbar and wallpaper works and everything looks 'okay' but the start menu doesn't show at all and I can't even do anything at all.I got this message"
Error:Could not find initModuleEx(x).Please confirm that the dll is a LiteStep module,and check with the author for updates.And then I have to restart everything because nothing works(it freezes except for the mouse) and I get this message to download a list of modules but half of those modules can't be installed because it doesn't let me.
First of all, you still haven't told us what theme it was you got from wincustomize. Secondly, what do you mean by "where else do you suggest I download themes other than the ones on this site"? You mean you've already tried all the themes on litestep.net? Finally, DeViLbOi's explanation was perfectly clear. If you can't figure it out... well, maybe you should go back to Explorer until you learn more. Thank you for calling. Next!
Devilboi said to rename the extension of your downloaded theme from .zip to .lsz because litestep can automatically unzip it and install it for you.
So when you've renamed the extension to .lsz you can double-click it to install it. That way you can avoid any "user error" that may get in your way.
This all only works if the theme is OTS2 compliant, and if it's not OTS2 compliant you shouldn't be trying to use that theme :P
" but the start menu doesn't show at all"
What start menu? Do you mean the popup menu on the desktop in this screen shot?

Also there is some issues with tat theme:
http://www.litestep.net/index.php?section=2&action=details&id=285
Get this theme (it will run perfect):
http://www.litestep.net/index.php?section=2&action=details&id=983
poodle: The theme that you linked to has errors in it. Some of the modules aren't properly named, so they won't download and install properly. If you do try out that theme fractal linked to, just beware that it's not compatible with the lsthemeinstaller. You'll have to install it manually, as how you described in your original post.
Thanks everyone for the help,if I keep having errors I'll just stick with the default or explorer.
We can help if you give us specifics.
Does it ask to download modules?
Your problems are fixable we swear, don't go back to the dark side... the lite-side is better? :\ ... whoa semi-unintentional pun... time to sleep...
struth thats the truth!
explorer = evil = darkside
litestep = good = lightside
Explorer is better if you tweak the properties. =P And a lot easier too.
Easier, yes. Better... well I guess that would depend on what you're looking for.
omg, I can do anything with ls ANYTHING!!!!
with explorer, only what M$ decides :/
ps: ANYTHING!!!! (that software can do)
"Easier"?!?!... nobody said the path would be easy, young padawan (sp?).
Yes 'easier',right click,properties,appearance,and change colors. O_o
poodlecrap: You're confusing Litestep with windows skinning.
Yeh they're completely different things poodlecrap.
Rightclick->System->Control Panel->Display
It's still there ;)
Ok this is what I get every time I try to put a theme in.

=S
Ok...and the error states that it is unable to download modules. Time for the dumb questions...
1) Are you connected to the Internet?
2) Are you behind a proxy?
1.Yes
2.I don't think so? =S
Any third party firewall blocking ports?
So there is nothing inbetween litestep and the net?
If there is: Allow litestep, or remove the barrier ;)
If there isnt a barrier of any sort: Download the modules from the various sites on the net manually ;)
Update your build of LS, last resort
Use Omars 3.0.1 installer with RC1
http://www.ls-universe.info/download.php?view.1
Then update the core files with RC3
http://www.ls-universe.info/download.php?view.11
and make sure you have the following lines included in your step.rc:
*NetLoadModuleSite "http://modules.shellfront.org/"
*NetLoadModuleSite "http://www.ls-universe.info/download/modules/"
*NetLoadModuleSite "http://www.mzks.org/litestep/module/"
*NetLoadModuleSite "http://www.loose-screws.com/download.php?netloadmodule="
