hi all!

me being a noobie litestep user, i had to ask this question. I have been using litestep since 4 months and i love it, but recently when i visited my friend, i saw him use aston+altdesk, there when we switch between desktops, the taskbar items dont appear in all the desktops but appear only in teh respective desktop, that atleast for me seems extremely comfortable than what i am having now ( i right now am on litestep with non-step theme with the default vwm rabidvwm i think). In my case even if i do move the window to another desktop, the taskbar item appears on all the desktops.

Is there any way i can get such fucntionality? if yes can it integrate with my theme ? :D

thanks a lot!

Theoretically it's possible with RabidVWM (CkVWM?) + xTaskbar. I say "theroretically" since when I tried it a while back it didn't seem to work properly. I can't recall what the exact problem was, but I think it was something along the lines of only one or two [out of several] apps being hidden when you switched desks. xTaskbar has been updated since then though, so it might be worth a try.

with xTaskbar:
XtaskbarVWMCurrentDesktopOnly

and rabidVWM:
VWMHideTaskOnSwitch

I think...

thanks!

i set them both to true, but still the tasks appear on all desktops
VWMHideTaskOnSwitch true
xTaskbarVWMCurrentDesktopOnly true

I am using rabidvwm-1.2.2 & xtaskbar-1.1.5.

I'm using rabidvwm-1.2.2 and xtaskbar-1.3.7 and it works. Try upgrading xtaskbar ;)

Oh, sorry, i forgot the "can it integrate with my theme" part. I'm not using nonstep :(
But the help file provided with xtaskbar explain how to change font, alignment ..
I downloaded nonstep, but the version i have uses tasks-0.92b4. If you could give a link to your theme, it would be easier to help you :)

After having tried different things :
It appears that the command !xTaskbarLSBoxHook requires the name of the taskbar in version 1.3.7 and in 1.1.5 it's optionnal.
Try adding xTaskbar after !xTaskbarLSBoxHook in files top.rc and bottom.rc.

also, check your personal.rc, since "VWMHideTaskOnSwitch" is defined in there.

You don't need both of those settings, and they will have different effects.

VWMHideTaskOnSwitch will hide windows on other desktops both in the taskbar and the ALT-TAB list.

xTaskbarVWMCurrentDesktopOnly will hide windows on other desktops in the taskbar, but all windows will show up in the ALT-TAB list. Addidionally, if by some chance LiteStep crashes, they'll still be accessible.

The sid, your 1.3.7 errors sound like a module-load-order problem.... maybe "/
