I've used litestep some time ago, and never had a single problem. Now, after some time I've started using it again. I chose to download omar's installer:
http://www.litestep.net/?section=7&catId=0&action=details&id=79
The problem is that, ocasionally, when I shutdown my computer, a blue screen shows up saying that a problem ocurred with windows, and it has to shutdown. Afterwards, ir restarts. I'm afraid that this can or has caused any serious damage on my computer. And this crash continues even I change back to explorer. This has only happened since I installer litestep. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.
If you get a BSOD, you can have any number of problems - some are simple and registry based, some are difficult and hardware based.
Just as a compulsory -
Have you had problems before installing litestep?
Have you installed any new hardware in the past - say - month?
Have you been nice enough to write down the hex dump so people with super cool programming skills can tell you what exactly is happening?
What theme are you using? Is it custom? If so, what modules are you using?
Lastly - what version of windows are you using? If it's XP, do you get the dialogue box when you reboot that "windows has encountered an error and had to restart. Click here for more information."? (do not confuse this with your earlier blue screen, this occurs when you actually get the reboot).
If you want to do some work on your own, if you have more than 1 stick of RAM, take one out and start your machine. Play a while, and see if it crashes. If it does, swap it with the other stick, and see what happens. If it doesn't crash, you have a faulty RAM stick (happens with age and overuse).
Best of luck,
Amejin
Well, the RAM is fine, it was checked two weeks ago due to other problems, and my hardware is exactly the same like when I bought this computer 2 years ago.
As for the themes, this happens with any of them, even the default austerity. And I wasn't clear on the explorer, it is also de BSOD that shows up on log off, the same as in litetep.
I don't think it's hardware related, since this only started to happen after litestep's installation. There was no errors during it, and I never had any problems with this shell.
For the hex dump, I don't understand a lot about the more "technical" stuff on windows, if you could tell me where do I take it from, I will post it here. I'm using windows XP Professional, by the way.
Still, thank you for your time.
Most BSOD in XP are Page_Faults Errors
Memory related...
What is the Error on the Blue screen?
Also update with RC3 on XP

Download and extract to your LS folder
Shut down litestep 1st!
And while it is a bit extreme to think this - a lot of times when you bring a PC into a repair shop (especially doing it yourself) it gets more damaged in the process (or damaged in the first place). Anything from oily fingers to a random static shock could ruin a stick of ram (oily fingers causes RAM to overheat).
I sorta have to agree with Immortal and say it's memory related... but I'm no expert.
If you havent upgraded to SP2 yet, I would suggest you do so as it manages a lot of memory quirks fairly well. While not a "fix," it's a work around to "bad" hardware. It will at least help you get through until you can replace the sticks (if they are indeed the problem).
Again, best of luck,
Amejin
Remember if you have some kind of custom built system
like an asus or abit,
Then you must set your memory timings!!!!
This is very important!
P.S.
Clogged system fans causing overheated chips will fail XP to BSOD also...
Thank you both, but I figured out the problem. The problem was my anti-virus (Norton), I noticed it wasn't working the way it was supposed to when updating, so I re-installed it. With that, some errors on my PC disappeared, and it also shuts down incredibly fast. The BSOD I was getting since litetep's install disapeared as well. I can't explain it, but it all works fine now.
Again, thanks for your help, both. ^^
