I have litestep running on two different machines, one works perfectly, and the other does not (they are both themes I made myself but the problem occurs with austerity as well).
The problem I am having is that explorer (file manager) doesn't seem to refresh as often as it should, for example after renaming a file it will take a few seconds to update it. The same is true for any action; deleting moving etc.
Also, moving a file into another window, the file doesn't stay in the position I moved it to, it auto arranges...
I would appreciate it if anyone could shed any light on this situation, and i apologise if this has been asked before.
Thanks
What is your setup?
OS?
Version of LS?
Dual Athlon MP 2800
512mb DDR
GeforceFX 5700 Ultra 128mb
Win2k sp4
Litestep Version: Not sure... I'm not at my PC at the moment although I downloaded the litestep installer about a month ago so v3.0.2 probably.
This is a known issue when you replace the explorer shell. I believe the UseDDE option fixes it.
I remember having this same problem,
I think (think!) it was a reg entry that needed to be changed and the reboot.
Maybe (maybe!) it was the "Run file manager as a seperate process" in the folder options...
Thanks for your replies...
Erm, I tried the seperate process thing fractaldesign mentioned, but that was to no avail... if you have any idea what registry setting needs to be changed it would help greatly.
DeViLvOi, as far as I am aware use DDE settings can be changed for particular filetypes... I don't really know that much about it. If you could direct me further I would appreciate it.
there is some step setting that is like LSUseSystemDDE or something that should fix explorer being dependant on the shell for the refresh.
Hmm... I just had a play with that LSUseSystemDDE, and when I disabled it no file manager windows could be opened at all, leaving no processes or anything. Enabling it again restores the functionality of explorer, although I am still left with the initial problem...
errr....
LSUseSystemDDE and Run as a seperate process?
Together?
Yep, tried that... Exactly the same.
Thanks anyways.
as far as Im aware, each folder has the ability to "refresh" on change differently. So, I move a file from foler "A" to folder "B" and "B" does not have auto-refresh on, it will stay put - go back to "A" (which has auto-refresh on) it will automatically assimilate.
You should find this setting in the "Tools" tab, set with each folder or all folder "children" (windows calls them subfolders).
As for your slow refresh problem - in my experience, nVidia cards are becomming more and more useless. (Side note: This is NOT meant to start a stupid fight. Relax)
Try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling. If that does not help, nVidia has those really stupid keystone monitor support drivers - play with them. They are stupid. Really. Some of them do stupid things.
Other than those ideas, I am at a loss. It may be an issue with W2k SP4 specific with a security issue with programs trying to change the shell... might be worth a google or something.
Best of luck,
Amejin
