litestep freezes on startup Thread last updated on 2005-08-25 13:56:55

ok, this has been happening for a while, but it is really starting to become an annoyance. Each time I reboot litestep freezes at startup. I have to alt+ctrl+del and end litestep and then restart it and everything works fine from there. I am using Litestep 0.24.7 RC3 with a OTS (not version 2) compliant theme that I made a LONG time ago. I don't know what could be causing this and I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. I even disabled EVERYTHING on startup except for litestep and it still does it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh yea. I'm also running windows XP Pro SPS2 fully updated via windows update.

did you uninstall and reinstall litestep?

make sure when you uninstall, you reboot, then reinstall.

Well, does it do that with OTS2 themes? All themes? Only a certain one? Share the name of it? It's probably an unhappy module...

Posted by member 11433 on 2005-08-23 01:25:34 link

the theme is called CORE. Here is a list of modules.

jDesk 0.70
Popup2 1.16
hotkey 1.6
shortcut2m 1.1.1.1
rabidvwm 1.0 beta 4 r
grdtray3 3.0 beta 1
label 1.91
tasks 0.92a
lsxcommand 1.8.5
geekamp 1.9.666
rainmeter 0.5
jamptoo 1.2

I would really like to get this theme converted to ots2 and updated modules, but I just don't have the time to learn all the new stuff. I'm going to school right now for computer programming and i'm getting into coding now and i've got to worry about that rather then trying to learn this right now.

that's a list of the modules I'm using.

1. Where is this theme on the 'net?
2. Have you tried asking the author about the theme, OR did the theme come with a license?

Posted by member 11433 on 2005-08-23 01:57:05 link

I am the theme creator. I created it in 2003. I've been having this problem since I reformatted about a year ago. I know it's not computer related because the same thing happens on my laptop with a XP Home (not pro).

Here is a link to the theme. http://www.corefx.net/corefx.zip
Any help is greatly appreciated. If anyone would be so kind to convert it to OTS2 (i've heard it's easy if you know what you are doing, but I don't have the time to learn the new standard right now...) I would be greatly appreciative.

Can't find the zip... Nice site though. Love the "48 ways" font haha.

Yeah, no file. I figured it might be core.zip, and it was, but it's go virii in it, in the config folder. Good AV software is cheap if it's a business comp, and free if it's not, echo.

After getting rid of the two infected .exe files, the theme installed and worked perfectly on my OTS2 xStep setup (except for an undefined $burn$ variable - I'm guessing you have that specified on your system).

ok. so maybe I need to download a new installer and install that? Where can I downloaded the latest install of litestep?

Posted by member 11433 on 2005-08-24 19:27:59 link

sorry about the viris....i didn't even know they were there.

OK, well I just used the LiteStep Installer 3.0.2 and I rebooted and the default theme that came with it worked fine when I rebooted. I installed my theme from the core.zip file and it loaded fine (except for the burn variable, which i fixed)...then I restarted and got the same problem. So I don't know what the hell is going on.

Xcal: did you try and reboot when you were using my theme? If so, everything worked fine for you? Maybe there is a windows file I need to update or something?

Yup, rebooting made Litestep hang. I had to kill the process and restart it after a reboot.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, here's an OTS2 update to your theme: (link removed - talk to echo if you want it)

I changed everything to *NetLoadModule, except for rainmeter, which I kept as LoadModule (it was easier for me). I found a couple redundant entries in your config I removed, and some unnecessary settings I removed, aswell. I also changed the "burn" shortcut to a more user-friendly "IM" button (you can easily change it back to suit yourself). I added a tiny entry in your readme to say that I updated.

It runs perfectly stable, and my system now reboots with it, with no errors at all. I did run in to stability issues with multiple !recycle-ing, but that shouldn't be a problem under normal circumstances, since you usually only do that when you're building.

I'm going to unhost it when I see you respond to this thread, so that I know you got it.

Enjoy

THANKS SO MUCH XCAL!

thanks for the comments about the site. :)

I just installed it and everything works PERFECT! It does catch if I refresh litestep more then 3 times, but that's an easy fix. (kill litestep, restart lol). Thanks for all you guys help. I appreciate it very much.

You're welcome. Removing the link now (your theme and all - so you can distribute or not if you want etc). No clue why it doesn't like multiple !recycle-ing, but no big deal for typical use.
