you have a few options -

you can try to read this:

http://litestep.rtreal.com

or, you can tell us the exact theme you are trying to install, and what error mesages you are getting.

Otherwise, we cannot help you.

I think a lot of the problems newbies have (no offense) is with the mixing of non-OTS2 themes with the OTS2 ones. Particularly when it shows the random themes when you hit the themes link. It'd be nice if old themes with potential compatibility problems could be moved in to an archive type area, with a big red banner explaining the potential problem.

I totally agree. It would help streamline the installation process, and cut down on the "hey, why doesnt this crap work?" questions...

Also, it might be worth a shot to check on valid archives... but that's just silly busy work.

On this site it is possible to show only OTS2 themes. Most people that seem to be complaining about non-OTS2 themes appear to be getting them from other sites though.

Your answer is there... All of those "wrong" messages are likely from using non-OTS2 themes. Unless you're an advanced user, stick with only OTS2! Go to the theme's section, click "Browse List," then in the second "all" pull-down pick OTS2, and click "Go!" If one of those themes don't work, then come back here with a specific problem/question for a specific thing/theme. As it was, your question was pretty vague.

Hey uglemat, people are only trying to help you. If you don't like the answers you're getting, maybe you should have phrased your question differently. Don't come in here and whine and then expect people to be friendly and helpful.

Already then.. I`m from Norway, and I`m sorry doh, to all of you. Just want my litestep to work 100%,and it pretty much do to. Its just those themes that won`t work. Everytime i fix a theme, and Download it, there`s always something that can`t be downloaded. So I wonderd if there was some, programs or something I needed to get them work. And yes, the themes is OTS2.

Are you using all the latest "stuff"? (installer, build, themes)

There have been some updates to NLM (the module downloader) so your prob might be fixed already ;)

other than that...

ps: Sorry for "lol'ing" at you, but it was pretty funny :D

You might also want to check and make sure the netLoad lines are directing to the appropriate module version.

Another thing - are you behind a software firewall? If so, there have been some issues with that. Might even be a hardware firewall causing the problem.

If youre on dial-up, are you timing out? Try pinging loose-screws.com

You can find what modules are being downloaded in the theme.rc file. To view this, open up notepad (assuming youre on windows XP or 98), make sure you open "all files" and go to your theme directory :

C:/LiteStep/Profiles/yourname/themes/themename/them.rc

scroll down until you see "*netLoad" a bunch of times, and make sure you have all the modules listed.

Keep in mind, if youre on windows 98 or 95, there may be some compatibility issues (maybe even with ME). Some modules use "true" transparency, and cannot work on 98 or 95.

You may also be getting a bunch of errors about variables that are "undefined." Is this the case? If so, which variables (or, a few if there are a bunch).

Other than these issues, most Themes will work normally. You may have downloaded a corrupt zip file, which means you might not have downloaded it from this site (even some of the zips here are bad archives, though).

Please, take your time when you write back. Be very specific on the errors you are getting. This will help us find exactly what is wrong, and we can answer your question directly.

also, if you post up the ACTUAL errors you're getting ("wrong" isn't quite descriptive enough), we would probably be able to help more.
