Windows Explorer functionalities necessary to be working in LS Thread last updated on 2005-07-21 14:25:38

I am using latest build with Designed4 theme modified by me to suit resolution.
I also updated some modules.
Anyway i find some frustrating problems mainly linked to explorer.
So let's start my list.

1) explorer does not save anymore folder preferencies (list, icons, thumbnails, and so on) and everytime it is started, it starts with "folders" on.

2) windowblind integration with explorer is not complete:
the left menu bar in folder view randomly appears with windows default light blue color and the shutdown menu is not textured nor colored.

4) file manager use is not straight: if i use the right-click menu "File Manager" it opens the "My Docs" folder with correct coloring by WB and no way to open any other directory.
If i use the LS icon "My Computer" it open the My Computer folder (at last!!!) but with default windows coloring (light blue).

5) notifications in the system tray do not work.
Usually this is good as it saves from a lot of hassles from Windows itself, but.
There is a but: many programs (nowadays) use notifications to interact with the user, most notable example i know of is the Bluetooth managing software.
Every time it detects a device or a service being requested it puts up a notification.
Noway to use it with LS.
Not even the rightclick menu works anymore with LS and i really wish to see this fixed.

Want to add another i forgot:

"my computer" does not autoresfresh on external unit connection: it's me who has t hit refresh and even wait a minute to let it "notice" that something new has been plugged into the computer.

Autorun of disks (cd/dvd) sometims works sometims doesn't.

1. It does not 'save' this when running Explorer as the shell, either. $drives$ gets My Computer. There's probably a command-line switch or two to look for, as well.

2. Huh.

4. Huh? If you select "File Manager", and Explorer is the file manager, you get the EXACT same thing as if you typed "explorer" into a standard run box. It's working just like it normally does. I don't have a clue about WB.

5. I think the xStep 0.24.7.1 (ls-universe.info) will get these working. Not having any software that uses them, though, I don't know for certain.

The right-click menu I don't really know about, either. Try the xStep 0.24.7.1 binaries, and maybe xTray-0.9.9 for the systray. If it won't work then, then it is just a mouse support issue with the software and system tray.

Reply post (you can edit...): it's just you with the external drives, I think. It should take a few seconds.

Dunno about autorun.

1) previously (before LS) Explorer used to "remember" my options.
Can you elaborate a bit on the $drives$ thing you mentioned?

2) i dunno understand this: the majority of the windows work well, but the little OSD with "Disconnect ShutDown Reset" is default.

3) forgot it :P

4) yes but then how is LS able to run "my computer" from the LS Desktop Icon?
And why, if i use this, the themeing does not work?

5)my theme uses vtray 1.10
Now i have to figure out how to change to xstep...

6)external units: i know it's not usual.
Before LS i didn't even have to blink, now it simply takes a lot when i do not have to repeatedly plug and unplug the thing.

1) You need to change the popup entry/label/whatever with the correct command. $drives$ just brings up a specific, hardcoded window. if you change it to:
"My Computer" explorer /s, $drives$

then it should be fine, and it should (key word being should) remember your settings.

2) if you're having a problem with Windowblinds, I suggest you visit their forum, you would probably have better luck there

4) same as 1 for the first part. same as 2 for the second.

5) you don't need to go to xStep. just make sure you're running RC3, and then switch to xtray. xtray itself enables notifications, so that should work fine for you, unless if i'm misunderstanding what you're wanting.

6) autorun doesn't really work for LS. however, there is a (old) module that, iirc, completely enables it. for adding new external units, I dunno, that works fine for me (for instance, plugging in external usb devices). maybe RC3 will help with that, too.

2. You are talking about WindowBlinds here. You should hit up a Windowblinds forum for better support.

4. From the Desktop is probably using some module like icondesk or something that points to the right CSLID.

About windowblind: if i use Explorer as shell everything is ok, the problem arouse only with LS.
That's why i wrote it here instead of on a windowblind forum.

And about xtray: i have RC3 (as shown on the "about LS" popup) but xtray is nowhere to be found.

Update: ok found on lsuniverse.
Now i "only" have to figure out how to get something like what i have now...

But remember...new versions of Windowblinds integrate into the explorer shell. Since you aren't running the explorer shell some things may be discarded but knowning the developers they have a work-around for LS.
