Having problems with explorer as file manager. Thread last updated on 2005-07-18 00:10:15

Having some problems all of a sudden while using explorer as my file manager. It won't launch from any shortcut pointing to file manager. Like, a taskbar or desktop shortcut won't work. But the link to the litestep folder and the theme folder in the popup menu will work. When I try any other method, even the windows key + E it hesitates, and doesn't launch. Explorer shows up in task manager, but no explorer on desktop.
Oh, I've been having 2xexplorer for a lomg time, It works fine if I set the evars up for it. wtf ? If windows explorer is set in evars config, it will not work. I've reinstalled litestep a couple of times, and that didn't help either.... strange.....

any help is appreciated... thanks.

double posting is bad...mmmkay.

And yes...there is a registry entry that is used by explorer so explorer doesn't load as the shell. That is what sounds like is happening. Proper registry values can be found at http://lsdocs.shellfront.org in the install instructions for 2K.

Hi, thanks for the reply,
I should not have posted in that old thread to start with. Probably won't get a reply there, but posting my problem in a fresh thread is good... mmmkay !

I RTFM and made certain all of the registry values were correct. I can switch from one shell to another with no problems, I just can't get windows explorer to load properly as the file manager. If I use the theme folder shortcut, or the Litestep folder shortcut, explorer opens like it should.
If I click the file manager shortcut,,, the first shortcut in the popup, she won't launch. Litestep has been working like a dream for me, for several months at least, but now Im afraid It's friggen bustegated bro. :D
any more ideas ?
thanks

have you checked your popup.rc and made sure it points to the same eVar?

Yes, It points to explorer.exe in C:\Litestep\Personal\Popup.rc.........

Try pointing it to $FileManager$

Man, I tried that too, but could you be a bit more specific ?
please.

Well...you said that your shortcuts work...just not the popup entry. So I assume one points to the eVar $FileManager$ and the other points to explorer.exe. Was just suggesting that they all be the same.

I thought you were thinking that.... LoL..ok..
You missunderstood.....
The popup works...Not the first one... The one that is labeled file manager, she no workie...the shorcuts that say, theme folder, and Litestep folder work fine. if I use the keyboard and type windows key+E she don't work... do you follow ? I've tried different things like pointing the evar config to 2xexplorer as file manager, and that works with every shortcut.. but if I set evars to windows explorer, only the ones I mentioned above will work... wierd huh ?
I never did have a problem like this before, so I'm just hoping someone else did.... :D maybe theres a way to fix it...

what is the evar defined to? are the entries in popup.rc and theme.rc in quotes?
