The second comment you made there makes no sense, so I will just try to reiterate what funkyd00d said.

The wallpaper has nothing to do with the explorer shell, so you set it by getting to display properties like you would normally, or you can just open an image and set it to the background as well.

Hope that helps a lil.

Correction, LP: the wallpaper has nothing to do with the explorer shell if it is a .bmp. If it is a JPG or other, you need explorer w/ active desktop enabled.
However, conversion to BMP is rather painless.

uh, thx. ill try using the display propertys. but whats a bmp?

OK, just in case you're in ignorant user bliss, open explorer, go to tools->folder options, then the view tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types", and click OK.

Anyway, a BMP (*.bmp) is a Windows or OS/2 bitmap image file. Uncompressed and big. JPEGs (*.jpg) are compressed, smaller, and used for most web stuff where lossy compression works well (like wallpapers). Using an image converter/viewer/editor/whatever, you can make a BMP from a JPG. It will be big, but will work without active desktop enabled. Now I don't know about XP, but Win98SE and Win2k both have exhibited the behavior of ignoring JPG files as wallpaper images when using LS.

I never had trouble using jpgs as wallpapers w/ LS, using xp home. And, uh kuyo, if you're such a newbie to computers that you don't know the difference between a jpeg and a bmp, and that you dont know what a file extension is, I honestly don't think you should use litestep =\

actually, the bmp requirement is only true for pre-xp machines. with xp, you can use any of the normal image types as a wallpaper.

I think clueless users exist parly because the OS tries to hide much more of the computer than it did on the past. You do not have to know anything about wallpapers, just right-click on the net + set as a wallpaper. You do not have to know about file extensions. You do not have to know about anything.

In this situation, ow can you blame someone for being ignorant about something he does not have to know?
