When I try to install a theme, the first one I ever downloaded, Litestep doesn't display it as the proper file type, which it isn't, and the folder contains no files of the correct type. What should I do?
hold your breath, click your heals together three times, and say "oh magical forum guru's please read my mind and tell me the answer without me giving the faintest hint of useful information!"
*holds breath and passes out*
Well...let's see...
Files in main folder:
Theme (Litestep config. file)
Eyedropper
Find
Files in config folder:
jamp(Litestep config. file)
popup(Litestep config. file)
layercut(Litestep config. file)
Script(Litestep config. file)
systray(Litestep config. file)
taskbar(Litestep config. file)
Transparent(Litestep config. file)
vwm(Litestep config. file)
xlabel(Litestep config. file)
I'm assuming you don't need to know what's in the sound or images folder.
Anything else you need to know?
Oh, and I tried a different theme, and I still had the same problem.
Umm, what exactly do you mean by "Litestep doesn't display it as the proper file type"?
What exactly happens when you try to install a theme?
Perhaps .lsz isn't a registered file extension?
If so I think you could reinstall litestep using an installer, running with admin privileges for the .lsz to register. I don't know if this is right, as I didn't.
I don't use the theme installer. I rename theme .lsz's to .zip's and extract them myself, inspecting them for malpractices such as changing wallpaper or setting system colors without my permission :)
I'm having the exact same problems, I'm stuck with the default theme, and it won't work with the new ones that I downloaded...
As a new user myself, I do find that figuring out how to install downloaded themes can be a bit confusing. Is there a tutorial someone might have written that they can share?
Edit: I found this in the readme section of the theme I was trying to install:
http://o-t-s.sourceforge.net/theme_installation.html Maybe it'll solve the problem?
1. Using Winzip/WinRAR: extract to litestep\themes
(if in Winzip, make sure "use folder names" is checked)
2. in the main popup, select refresh list
3. in the same popup, now select new theme
I've never had a problem doing it this way.
Or:
In the popup: litestep>change theme>Install theme
select any .zip or .lsz file, and let it install.
I don't see why people are having so much trouble installing themes...
