with LS 0.24.7 (RC1, RC2, RC3) i don't have tray icons. I've tried all systray mods and don't have too. With 0.24.6 was all ok. Or maybe can somebody tell me whats wrong? I've tried all tips from this forum...and don't work

Have you upgraded the systray module?

do you have trayserver.exe running in the background?

Sounds like you are using one of the old systray modules or installed ObjectDesktop since your last LS install.

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml

Run that util, and uncheck/delete the entry with "trayserver.exe" in it.

And if "trayserver" was the problem, then no, you did -not- try "...all of the tips from this forum" :)

going along the tangent the forums are still a transient source of answers. we'd need subcategories to address common FAQ-style problems. they fill up quick, these forums. of course we're still waiting for the new version and search to come back.

yah, it would be nice if someone had the time to go through the forums posts and create a useable FAQ out of them.

Search is still available under each forum. The global search is the only thing disabled.

I prefer fdisk /mbr for pure cruelty

Mmm... that doesn't work- if you only have one OS, or only one active partition (which, presumably, is the one you WANT booting), it won't do any harm. I've done it before with no ill effects :). (but yes, format C: should generally do the job ;)

Yes, extremly way, but works :-)
Sorry if that question with "trayserver" was earlier, but first i was asking about old verion of LS. BTW-should be older versions of LS in any servers - and when i had LS 0.24.6 there was no problem with "trayserver". Hmm, is that new bug with new Litestep?

Posted by member 1 on 2004-07-22 22:15:50 link

nope...always been there. More than likely you installed a StarDock product between here and there.

Actually it was a bug in 0.24.6... It continued to create the tray service when there was another one already running. 0.24.7 fixes this, and does not create it if one already exists when Litestep loads.

so then if trayserver is running, then litestep won't try to create it's own system tray service? wouldn't it make more sense, if trayserver's running, to stop it, then to start litestep's??
