Hello im a n00b to litestep and my friend got me into it and got me to install litestep onto my computer. Well the installation went perfect and everything was fine. When i rebooted my computer the litestep shell was working, but the problem is that it keeps bringing up the MyDocuments folder and won't stop loading it and it is preventing me from doing anything. How do I solve this problem. Plz help im a n00b. Ive searched the forums and didnt seem to find a solution.

I found the topic where this problem is discussed, but there is no solution and everything that the person in that thread has done, i have too.

using lscheckreg might fix that. http://www.ls-universe.info/download.php?view.13

could also try http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml

And see if anything listed there is causing it to happen.

Thanks for the replies. I know this is going to sound really n00bish of me, but do i have to have explorer as my shell to make those programs work. And if so, another n00b thing sorry im bein really n00b today, but how do i load my computer to run explorer as my shell instead of litestep. Im running on a XP machine.

Another quick question, sorry so many n00b questions. I just really want litestep to work, and i appreciate all the help.

Since i run on an XP machine im going to set up another account just for litestep so i can easily go back and forth between litestep and explorer. How do i uninstall litestep from my machine with the current problem i have. I installed Omar's litestep stuff.

jesus h. christ...he called himself a n00b 7 times so far in this thread...

to set individual user accounts to use litestep/explorer, use the setshell.exe tool included with the installation. should be in the litestep\utilities folder.

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-13 14:18:41 link

the thing is i cant get to the litestep\utilities folder because of my problem with the my documents keep popping up. How do i get to my account without litestep as the shell.

ctrl+shift+esc, end the litestep.exe process, new task, explorer.exe. There, you're back to the default shell

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-13 19:18:32 link

Whenever i did wat Funkyd00d said all it did was open up MyDocuments, and when i restarted it did the exact same thing, wat do i do??

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-13 19:36:24 link

Also when i end the litestep.exe all it does is get rid of the litestep stuff but keeps popping up the MyDocuments folders, im lost and dont know wat to do to get bak to explorer so i can fix the problem

did you try the app i suggested you in the first place? that should fix the *my documents* problem, and to switch between explorer and litestep use the setshell utility that comes with ls.

Sryo, that program worked, i didnt know i could be on another account to get it to work, i feel such like a major n00b right now hehe, thnx

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-13 21:04:44 link

Ok well, it seems like that the app u suggested worked, but when i restart my computer the problem happens all over again

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-14 06:54:02 link

Now the app doesnt fix anything and im back to my old problem, wat do i do?

Maybe you have a virus that doesn't like the fact you use another shell? Or spyware maybe? I suggest scanning for both. This problem has been brought up a few times, but no-one has found the cause/solution so far...

i have a message that says it cant find the bridge.dll file on my computer, does that have ne thing to do with it.

Also, i cant get bak into the explorer shell now to run spyware and virus scan

Posted by member 1316 on 2004-07-14 10:50:49 link

...if you're not running a shell at all right now, can't you jsut bring up task manager, and manually start up the spyware removal tool and virus scan?

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-14 12:30:37 link

i did that, but the virus scan kept freezing and no spyware was found on my computer. I have SpyBot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware 6. The virus scan i have is McAfee. I uninstalled litestep with its uninstall.exe and im back to my explorer shell and the im just started my virus scan.

With this problem is there any way i can use LiteStep, because ive seen my friend use it and ive tryed it out on his computer, i really want to use LiteStep. Ive searched several forums including this one AND loose-screws forum and havent found out a solution despite trying everything the forums suggested.

I googled bridge.dll, and I found something that you might want to see: http://www.2-spyware.com/file-bridge-dll.html.

Posted by member 181441 on 2004-07-15 08:44:10 link

Ive tryed that and it hasnt worked for me

Posted by member 1316 on 2004-07-15 18:03:23 link

i don't normally like to say this, but in this case...re-install. you could have it back up and going (depending on your system) in a quarter of the time you've already spent trying to fix it.

Well deuce, you sir are a genious, i thought i wasnt going to be able to have litestep so i tested out other shells like geoshell(eww!!) and aston(too much like explorer eww!!) and i realized that litestep IS the shell i want and so i gave it a go once again and wat do u know, it worked, YAY!!! i feel such like a n00b now =P

i have no idea wat causes this problem, but re-installing litestep seemed to fix the problem

Posted by member 130376 on 2004-07-25 02:42:40 link

i also have the problem of My Documents popping up nonstop when Litestep loads. i tried all the suggestions mentioned above, but none of them seemed to work. i even reformatted my computer and reinstalled XP and Litestep, and it worked for a day or two, but the problem occurred all over again out of nowhere for no apparent reason.

Posted by member 117872 on 2004-07-25 12:58:53 link

Huh. God that sounds so much like a virus or worm... do you have a broadband connection? If so, do you have a firewall? Have you run all the necessary anti-viral programs? Anti-spyware? Have you installed all of the windows patches?

Posted by member 184854 on 2004-07-26 05:06:21 link

I had a similar problem (no virus or anything, thats definite) I was using litestep on a seperate XP account, and I found that it would open the explorer constantly unless I first logged onto the other account.

@ace

XP home? Pro? Were the accounts admin accounts?

Posted by member 130376 on 2004-07-26 14:55:39 link

what if i am only using one account (the admin), and there are no other accounts setup besides the admin?

Posted by member 103254 on 2004-07-26 15:54:11 link

Should work AFAIK. I asked that to ace because there might be unknown issues with litestep and accnts that don't have admin rights, it was just a guess.
