What does this do? I found it in my personal.rc file. Its says it will lower mem use if disabled, but will not use "proper" DDE support. What does this mean?

It tells the LS core to use the shdocvw DDE Server (ie. the one that explorer uses) instead of the liteman-based emulation.

That answer was probably not what you were looking for, but the story is long and quite technical. Anyway, without DDE server things like the fonts folder or the network connections dialog (or even Find Files, though that's another story) wouldn't work. Or maybe they would work and you'd get an additional error message that the path "(null)" couldn't be found, or something like that.
