Can litestep access desktop icons normally? Thread last updated on 2004-06-11 04:44:12

Hi, i've just installed litestep tonight :)

I've been playing around with it and its quite nice so far except there's just this one thing that really annoys me, the desktop!

I am unable to draw a selection around icons, even click on an icon to view its full filename. I'm using the default theme (austerity) and i'm pretty sure this 'problem' is not theme specific as i installed a few others to see the same thing.

I've rummaged through a heap of config files to find nothing that can change this option.

Can someone please shed some light?
Is this even possibile in litestep?

many thanks,
RaiLaN

The desktop icons are part of Explorer. LiteStep has to imitate them, but it's not yet perfect.

Reason is that mpst LiteStep users don't like desktop icons i guess. I didn't even use them in explorer.

Yup. LS couldn't do the icons way back when, and a lot of us either got used to that or are used to older linux desktops. If you spent awhile not relying on the desktop icons, you may find yourself not being any worse off for it :).

Actually I was under the impression that doing icons like Explorer has would indeed be quite difficult (it's a real filemanager folder in many senses)... Especially as LS has different modules for icons and desktops, which makes me a bit sceptical on how many things would have to be changed to implement it.

xLabel and Icondesk do a pretty good job now.
