can the site creator make a win 98 themes section for the users that still use this os. this is because i and mabye lots of others are still using this os and it is hard to find themes that work well with it.

I agree, but gave up on specting that to happen.
Best way make your own.
xlabellight-1.1.dll works great on 98

Well...I will need you to sell me on the idea because as far as I know the only modules that do not work on 9x machines are those that deal with alpha-transparency. So any theme using grdTransparent and grdMagic will have issues, everything else should be fine. Now theme authors should be putting IF statements into their themes to test for this so all themes, if written correctly, should work on 98.

layercut, lsdynamic, and lsbox 3.0pre don't work on 9x either.

I think grdmagick will work on 9x. afaik it doesn't do anything with transparency.

I guess not allways but 98 users probably have older system (like me) and newer modules some times get bigger with functionality that dont apply to our systems,so we just got to pick the right module version, I guess we can handle it. 98SE Great OS.

Well...the problem I see with that is that 99% of all themers won't know if their theme works on 9x or not and you still have a problem. Either they will say it supports it and it doesn't and you get a crap theme...or they say it won't support it and it will and you loose the opportunity at a great theme. I don't know which is actually worse at this point considering how much of the population actually uses 98 still and could even get this functionality tested. More feedback please...

RabidCow: however...I believe it does alpha-blending to handle things which doesn't work on 9x kernels from what I remember.

You can alpha blend bitmaps starting with win98. Starting with win2k you can alpha blend windows.

And actually, it looks like grdmagick(-1.3.1 at least) does alpha blending manually. So unless I've missed something it'll work even on 95.

MHO: Modules should fail quietly if they require things that don't exist on 98. But I dunno about *realistic* solutions.

my sytem tends to come up with everal error mesages and some modules wont dl for who nos y but this section was suposedly sposed to be for people want to make their themes specifacly for mswin 98\se

all win9x themes will work on NT kernels so what percentage of all themes do you believe don't work with 98?

Posted by member 166926 on 2004-06-18 17:21:32 link

that is true but some themes made for 9x/xp will have blank features that are just taking up system reascorses and dont work with the os aka transperancy, some desktop manegers, and some video games

but desktop managers and video games are not part of a LiteStep theme.

@Rabid/DevBoi: If my memory serves me well (which it usually doesn't) I had grdmagick(version???) working on my machine when I was using Win98SE. I have since upgraded to Win2k, so I can't double check.
