Need help choosing a theme... Thread last updated on 2004-06-15 10:03:05

I have been going through the themes available in the themes section and ones from customize.org and while I have found some that are nice they really seem to be resource hogs... I am currently using Ivory and it is using about 90 megs of memory.... What I am looking for in a theme is this:

a Clock
Access to the systray

Those are the only 2 things I absolutely need in a theme... other than very low memory usage obviously... other things such as virtual desktops and cpu monitors are nice but they aren't necesarry for what I need. Can anyone recomend a theme that fits these requirements? I am willing to get my hands a little dirty setting it up but I don't have the ability to create my own theme

I don't think LS is your problem. Ivory isn't done quite right (no "intall xlabel-2.9.dll"), but takes up 5MB for me.

well then what else could be doing it b/c right now litestep is leaking like it was made by microsoft...

Dunno. xLabel did have a leak issue. It's risky if there's a lot of scripting, but you could change that line to
*NetLoadModule "xlabel-3.0.5" install "xlabel-3.0.5.dll"
and see what happens. Also, it couldn't hurt, I doubt, to upgrade LS to RC3.

I just checked the about portion and it says it is using Label 1.95 not xLabel...

I have tried using the newest RC litestep and for a while that brought down the memory usage but now I'm back up to around 50 megs of memory being used... can anyone offer any suggestions about what I can do to try and fix this problem?

ok... this thread got off track with people trying to help fix some of the other problems... My original intention for this thread was to ask for help in picking out a nice simple theme that had systray access and a clock... other stuff is nice but not needed... I don't mind getting my hands a little dirty with the setup so any suggestions would be appreciated

Try my theme (FHI Theme, in the recent uploads). It's not very flashy, but quite functional and I'm actually quite proud of it.

Any comments will be appreciated (link below, hope it works).

Thanks Warma... I'll check it out in the morning... one other thing I should have added and I don't know if your theme has this or not is that I usually prefer to use high resolutions so I'd like a theme that wouldn't require me to squint to read the text... but that's not super important as I can survive on lower resolutions

My theme is resolution-independent, and most of the text is Arial Narrow on size 16.
It's perfect on 1024x768, fine at least until 1280x960 (which I use), and I've seen people use much smaller text on 1600x1200 too, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Anubis has a clock and systray. Dunno if you want just those cause it has other stuff as well. But works well as far as I can tell.
