novell and litestep Thread last updated on 2003-03-10 07:36:53

Hi, I'm having some troubles getting litestep to work on my work-computer.
The thing is that litestep starts up fine , but whenever i need to run explorer.exe , the old startmenu appears and litestep is shot :P
I read something about setting LS for both user and machine, now I'm _VERY_ new at this so I dont know how I'm gonna do this.
But I also think that my novell-profile is screwing around a bit with the settings, because things (that should only be run at startup) start up twice, once when LS loads and once when I start explorer.exe.

Sooo.. is there a way I can setup LS in my novell profile (roaming profile) ? I think thats where the problem is, but as I said before, I'm _NEW_ to this.
Any help at all would be much appreciated ;)

First of all you need to read the Tutorials for LS, it will explain everything; however, I am in a giving mood.

If explorer (the shell) opens when you try and run explorer (the file manager) it means you misconfigured your registry, re-read the installation docs.

As LiteStep starts up it will run your StartUp entries as it should as a shell loads. Since you load two shells it will run everything twice. Now fix the first and you should be good.

now I did read the Tutor and changed some reg-keys (they were not set, as if I did not have admin-access (which I do have))
Though the problem consists, and the changes in the regisrty under current user are gone, probably because novell creates a new user each time I log on.
Is there any way I can get the changes in the registry transferred to my account on the novell-server?

novell should not alter your shell settings, especially those that LS uses. As to fixing your other problem it is because admin and user do not have the same shell. If you try and load them differently you will have this problem and you will need another file manager. That should have been explained in the tutorial. *kix mojomonkee*

I fixed it now, I put all the alterations in the registry in hkey_local_machine as they would not stay in hkey_local_user after a reboot.
Atleast it works now :D
