I was trying to get my sister involved with Litestep being that she liked the functionality of what I have, and posted themes look. So I started reading the forums with her showing her posts that I thought were interesting, and then after a while she said "It's man stuff" I said It had nothing to do with it. but then I wonder....
do you think there is any truth to what she said.
and if there are any kind comment on the matter.
my gf and my sister in law use litestep. they dont mess much with it tho.
she just needs to realize that there are more male geeks than female. However...I do have a couple friends who are female that use LS daily. Its the geek factor...not the sex factor
Very few women think the way men do, whether it's computers, cars, or whatever. There aren't that many female gamers, either. Two different brains juicing different hormones at different times...many women find techincal stuff like this boring and useless. Just a quirk of the sex, I'm inclined to believe.
as much as I know you would draw flak for that comment, volfro, I'll back up the intent: people still have to understand that women and men (in a general sense) are different in many fundamental ways.
For instance: did you know that women are true multi-taskers, while men just try and pretend they are? (Do 3 totally separate things at once, and see how well you do: be honest with yourself: are you doing them simultaneously? or by quickly switching, like a single cpu system? ;)
I try to teach my gf how to use the keyboard as much as possible to speed up computer-work, but usually the next time she's logging on our computer she uses the mouse to select the username, types her own username, uses the mouse to select the password dialog, types her password, uses the mouse to click 'OK'... *sigh* "Use the tab-key, honey, it's much easier" ;)
I bet she'd like LS actually, but I don't know if I'll bother, hehe.
i forced my sister to use ls. ;)
i think she actually likes it, or at least doesn't care. however she would never try to create a theme herself, although she has already done some nice gfx for me.
in contrast, my girlfriend always says she couldn't understand why i need to have it all that fast, she doesn't mind to wait for explorer crap... i think besides that she simply doesn't need something like ls, she way too adicted to explorer (i should have known her earlier to avoid this ;) ).
" she just needs to realize that there are more male geeks than female"
i think that's it precisely.
dunno if it's cultural or biological but girls just dont seem to get as heavily into the nerdier aspects that some of us guys do
I honestly believe it's a fundamental difference between sexes, in general. Sure, there are female mechanics and IT professionals, but there are certainly more men in either business.
However, it goes both ways: teaching is a female-dominated job, like guidance counseling and other emotionally-intensive jobs. It's just the way they work. Again, not to say a guy can't be a guidance counselor or a therapist and not to say a woman can't work on cars. Neither would be true at all. But it IS true that women are better than men at thinking in certain ways, just like men are better than women at thinking in some ways. Not an insult. Just a fact.
Multi-tasking's a good example, as a matter of fact. Something that women, in a general sense, just do better than men, and that's that. There're all kinds of little things like that, actually.
