running LS ontop of explorer issue Thread last updated on 2004-05-27 01:57:23

I use Windows 98se.
I 'm a newbie, so pleas help me, because I really like LS.

I know it is advised not to run LS ontop of explorer but whatever I try, I always get the typical warning at start-up. I've checked my system.ini file, and is does say "shell=c:/litestep/litestep.exe".

So why is it I get the warning anyway?
What should further be checked?

Kind regards,
IL

sistem.ini line should read:
shell=C:\LITESTEP\LITESTEP.EXE (no quotes)(this\) not(this/)

Keen observation, but that was just me typing it wrong here in the message. I use the most recent installer, so the system.ini line is generated automatically.

So the issue wasn't solved. Please post further suggestions.

if it's just that you get a warning, put LSNoShellWarning in your step.rc.

I'm new to LS, so I don't know if I enjoy the ful capacities of LS.
Strange though, a warning like that.

That warning is displayed if there's another systray already running on your system. Have you ever installed DesktopX/Object Desktop?

Yes, I have, in fact, it is still installed, but it is not running. I do run the programme multidesk. Could that be the problem?

DesktopX and Litestep dont mix for an unknown reason. or do we know now? Anyways you will have to uninstall desktopx for litestep to work i believe.

just disable trayserver.exe with msconfig and it'll work fine.

In the msconfig, section 'Startup' I have disabled 1A:StardocTrayserver.
I'll let you know if that does the job!
