How do i go about adding a quicklaunch icon onto the main bar?

You have to remember that litestep itself has no "main bar". Anything you see on your screen is put there by the theme itself. That said, it's going to depend on what theme you're using and what modules that theme uses. If you post that information (or even just the theme name), someone should be able to help you out.

Your best bet if you want to figure it out yourself, is to look in the .rc files for things related to shortcuts, labels or icons. Figure out how they work (most of them come with documentation that can be found at http://www.loose-screws.com in the litestep module library) and add a line or two to the appropriate .rc file.
