Well, im running LS0.247rc2 on win98se, Its running great but my pc is only 0.55Ghz 128Ram and Im going to upgrade to a better system.
I would like to know if LS runs better on win2000 or Xp.
and besides alpha transparency, what would the advantages of upgrading to any of this os be.
Im really tempted to have a monster system running win98se.
Aside from tansparency, I don't think there is anything (for LS, anyway). Stability will be there, and multitasking is smoother in NT (Win2k = NT 5.0, XP = NT 5.1).
My advice on any new PC:
Athlon XP: good.
Athlon64: very good.
Pentium 4A: OK.
Pentium 4B: good.
Pentium 4C: very good.
Pentium 4E: very good.
Pentium 4 Celeron: avoid like the plague. A Celeron 2.6GHz is about even with a 1.4GHz Athlon or 1.6GHz P4.
Windows2000 and XP like RAM. 256 is a minimum for actual use, and if you multitask a lot, 512MB will do very well.
There should be no reason to be tempted to use W98. As far as I see, W2k is better in every aspect and much much much more stabile (in addition to being able to use more RAM etc.)
I never did get WinXP, but I've heard that it's OK too.
Dump the W98 - it's SO last millennium.
WinXP is nice for eye candy, and SP2 should do better for normal users. Unless you can get it super cheap, there's no point in Win2k right now.
OTOH, there's also not a good enough reason to upgrade from Win2k, IMO. I'll get XP when I have to.
Get enough RAM, a speedy HD (7200 RPM 40GB+), WinXP and all will be well. Even on your current PC, Wim2k/XP would do better multitasking, but an upgrade would be nice.
