This is completely unrelated to Litestep, but I thought maybe some folks here could help me out. When I try to playback a video file in Windows Media Player, Winamp, DivXPlayer, and probably everything else, only a small portion of the video is played. For example, a 15 minute vid may only play the first minute of video, then the video freezes, but the audio continues to play (even the play position cursor has reached the end of its strip). The length of the video appears to be interpreted wrong, as the registered length of the video is always wrong (ie: 1:15, rather than 17:14). A couple of files do work as they are supposed to however, playing the entire file and registering the correct video length.

I'm using Windows 2000, Pentium II 400Mhz, 320 MB RAM.

could it be hat the file is damaged? happened to me recently, spent a whole day testing codecs and trying other players just to realize the movie file was broken...

possibly... but it is occuring with many files. It should be noted that all of my video files were downloaded via a P2P app on another computer, and then subsequently burnt to CD. The problem occurs both when played back from CD, and when copied to the hard disk and played back.

Try opening 'em with VirtualDub. If something's wrong with the file, it'll tell you, and often you can do a direct stream copy to repair it at least enough to watch. (assuming it works with mpeg2... too lazy to check right now.)

Aiight, I'll give that a try and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestions.
